Who you are
- 3 - 7 years of software engineering experience (We are hiring at multiple levels for this role)
- Deeply understand how a product fits into the business landscape
- Proficiency in TypeScript and Python
- Be a customer obsessed engineer who loves talking to users and getting feedback
- Strong ability to make design decisions and craft great experiences
- Willing to think outside of the box and build a product from scratch for users to serve new needs and use cases
- Understanding of responsive design, component-based architecture, and UX fundamentals
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
Desirable
- 5+ years of software engineering experience
- Prior experience in product engineering roles with high degree of customer interactions
- Interest in generative AI or developer tools
- Startup experience or prior contributions to internal or open-source component libraries
- Prior technical leadership / technical PM experience
What the job involves
- We’re seeking a Full-Stack Software Engineer to play a highly impactful role in shaping the Fireworks platform
- You’ll contribute across the stack, from our developer-facing web application and Python SDK to our backend systems
- By doing so, you’ll enable developers to successfully self-serve GPU deployments and fine tune custom models
- As the public platform serves as the product-led growth (PLG) engine for Fireworks, this role offers both high visibility and the opportunity to drive direct business impact
- Contribute to the Fireworks Platform (developer-facing web app, serverless and on-demand inference, Python SDK) alongside other team members
- Design and implement full stack technical features to address business problems
- Ship features that users care about, iterate rapidly and ideate constantly
- Rapidly prototype and experiment with a data driven focus
- Own feature development from backend APIs to frontend user interfaces
- Directly engage with users through various channels (Discord, meetups, etc.) and convert their needs into shipped features
- Be able to explain why a feature matters to customers as well as its importance in the competitive landscape
- Be a user of the inference platform to have a deep sense of what’s working and what’s not working in the product
- Solve Hard Problems: Tackle challenges at the forefront of AI infrastructure, from low-latency inference to scalable model serving

Our take
Whilst the development of generative AI is thought to be the reserve of large companies like Open AI, smaller startups such as Firework.AI are making this technology easier to access and develop for smaller companies wanting to handle specific business needs using AI. As an open-source model API, it has one of the largest user bases - with over 12,000 users leveraging Fireworks.AI’s software.
Though lacking the brand name recognition of generative AI developers like Google and Meta, Fireworks.AI differentiates itself in a market crowded with large competitors through its unique approach to deploying its software. It creates smaller, production-grade, customisable generative AI models that can be launched privately and securely, rather than the non-private and inflexible models built by larger companies.
After its 2024 Series B round of $52 million, Fireworks.AI has been valued at over $550 million, an impressive sum for a David in a sea of Goliaths. The company plans to use its funding to develop compound AI systems that can orchestrate across multiple single models. It will be interesting to see how the company evolves with its potentially disruptive business approach to generative AI.
