Who you are
- Proven experience in recruiting sales professionals, particularly in consumer digital media and ad sales
- Extensive knowledge of the Go-To-Market talent landscape within consumer digital media and ad sales
- Strong understanding and passion for the gaming industry
- Proven ability to identify, source and close top sales talent
- Demonstrated experience in developing and executing recruiting strategies
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence and guide stakeholders

What the job involves
- Discord is on the lookout for a seasoned Senior Sales Recruiter to join our Business Recruiting team. Reporting to the Business Recruiting Manager, this individual will play a crucial role in building and scaling our sales organization, with a focus on consumer digital media and ad sales
- Lead Sales Recruitment Efforts: Oversee the recruitment process for Sales Account Managers and Account Executives, with a focus on hiring individuals with a proven track record in consumer digital media and ad sales
- Develop Recruitment Framework: Design and implement effective hiring processes and strategies tailored to attract top Go-To-Market talent within these sectors
- Stakeholder Partnership: Advise and coach hiring managers and other stakeholders on best practices in sales recruitment, providing guidance throughout the hiring cycle
- Market Expertise: Utilize your deep understanding of consumer digital media and ad sales to source and identify high-caliber candidates
- Predictive Analysis: Leverage data to forecast recruitment trends and align strategies with organizational goals
- Leadership Presence: Demonstrate strong leadership to handle complex discussions and drive impactful decisions
- Candidate Experience: Maintain a commitment to delivering exceptional service to candidates, ensuring a seamless and positive recruitment experience
- This role is a 6-month contract opportunity with the potential for extension based on performance and business needs. This position can be hybrid based in the SF Bay Area or remote (with the expectation to work typical 9am - 5pm PT hours)
Our take
Discord is an industry giant in the chat app space. The free platform has rapidly become one of the most popular services in the sector since being founded in 2015. It counts over 200M active users in 19M communities, successfully expanding beyond its original focus on video game players to become a broader social networking app and public forum.
Discord's userbase has grown rapidly as remote work has become the norm and a new generation of internet users has come online, attracted to its youthful presentation and plethora of gaming and social tools. It has since fended off takeover bids from Microsoft and interest from other giants such as Amazon and X, and has grown into a profitable company, funded by optional subscription fees and commissions from sales through the platform.
Discord’s remarkable growth, however, is not without obstacles. The company faces competition from deep-pocketed giants like Facebook, and regulatory concerns from those worried about the platform’s relatively light chat moderation. However, the company has the resources and expertise to adapt. For example, the acquisition of harassment detection software company Sentropy will go a long way towards placating the concerns of critics, as will the 2024 acquisition of teen app Gas used to give anonymous compliments to friends. All of these purchases are part of Discord's move to expand out of its mostly gaming-focused customer base.
