Who you are
- Have at least 8 years of industry experience with backend development
- Experience with event-driven architecture and distributed systems
- Strong background integrating with external APIs and services
- Experience building platform services used by multiple teams
- Strong data modeling skills for systems requiring transactional consistency

What the job involves
- Our Senior Software Engineers lead and mentor engineers, delivering high-value products for our customers and infrastructure that enables our business to scale
- Vanta’s product monitors the security posture for thousands of companies, pulling tens of millions of API calls of data per day, pushing information from hundreds of thousands of laptop agents, and running tests against that data continuously to identify potential security threats
- Our infrastructure and tooling need to stay ahead of exponential growth in our customer base
- As a Senior Software Engineer at Vanta, you’ll be responsible for setting technical direction to provide a strong foundation for our infrastructure to scale with our business
- You will also drive complex projects across our technical stack and mentor our talented engineering team
- Your past experience will be leveraged to enable and accelerate Vanta’s growth
- The Monetization Platform team at Vanta is building an enterprise-grade revenue and entitlement platform to support our rapid upmarket expansion
- These systems form the critical foundation for how customers purchase, access, and manage Vanta's products
- We're solving complex technical challenges including data modeling for entitlements, ensuring transactional consistency across integrated financial systems, designing robust API contracts, and implementing metering infrastructure for usage-based billing
- As we scale to serve larger enterprises, we face unique engineering challenges in designing flexible systems that can support complex organizational structures, diverse purchasing patterns, and sophisticated partner ecosystems
- In this role, you'll provide technical leadership to help architect solutions that seamlessly connect our customer-facing platform with our financial operations, enabling everything from streamlined enterprise procurement to partner-driven distribution models
- Your work will establish reliable data flows across our business systems, reduce manual operations, and create scalable infrastructure that supports new commercial models
- You'll evaluate integration approaches with financial platforms, build the connective tissue between systems, and ensure data consistency throughout our ecosystem
- This role offers the unique opportunity to build systems that directly impact Vanta's growth trajectory while solving technically interesting distributed systems problems at the intersection of product, finance, and sales
- Lead complex projects with multiple stakeholders and engineers to enable our business and team to scale
- Provide technical direction for key monetization initiatives
- Collaborate with GTM and Finance teams to ensure alignment between engineering systems and business needs
- Support design reviews, communicate constraints, and help engineers make the right trade-offs
- Act as a cultural beacon, setting an example for effective, collaborative engineering and helping mentor junior team members
- Make effective tradeoffs that consider business priorities, user experience, and a sustainable technical foundation
- Drive initiatives to increase operational posture and execution quality across the engineering organization
Our take
The security auditing process is usually very time-consuming, taking hours to complete, and it is often difficult for start-ups to invest time into such a process. Yet, the benefits of security accreditation are enormous, mainly as many such businesses are working globally and need ways to demonstrate security compliance to one another. Vanta works specifically with start-ups to help them complete and pass security audits such as SOC 2 and ISO 27001.
The company is a compliance portal and security monitoring platform that businesses use to assess their risk levels. Vanta carries out a pre-audit of a company's digital security and highlights areas that need to be worked on before a full analysis of all threats is carried out. Other businesses such as Datadog or PagerDuty offer similar security monitoring services, but Vanta monitors its customers throughout the year, allowing any issues to be identified and addressed early on.
Vanta has found a valuable cybersecurity niche within the giant SaaS market. Companies such as Lattice, Clubhouse, and Calm are all customers, demonstrating a growing trend for companies to manage their cybersecurity proactively, which Vanta should be able to take advantage of to further grow and develop into the future.
