NextNav's mission is to build the future of location services.
Desirable
If there’s one major flaw to geolocation software like Google Maps, it’s that they’re only useful on ground level. In its own words, Next Nav is “elevating geolocation” with 3D technology to provide floor-level location data indoors and in urban environments.
From a consumer standpoint, this would make it so much easier to find, say, a store in a mega mall. However, there are far more important benefits for the likes of first responders, infrastructure stakeholders, and construction teams. Indeed, it’s these kinds of services that NextNav has targeted since launching in 2008.
The company has grown immensely since then, going public in 2021. Interestingly, the company is eyeing the gaming industry as its next frontier, which could be huge considering the growth potential of the VR and Metaverse gaming markets. In late 2022, it partnered with Japanese GPS positioning company Metcom, signifying NextNav's entrance into the Japanese market.
