Role
Who you are
- Have 6+ years of experience in Data Science with sparse real world data, most likely biomarker and wearable data with excellent physiological understanding
- Considers Python as their Mother Tongue and has a strong track record in developing deep learning and multimodal data fusion for sequential data
- Experience with forecasting models, optimization models, statistical analysis, and running simulations
- Have an advanced degree (Masters) in a STEM-related field (e.g. engineering, computer science, mathematics, statistics) or equivalent work experience
- Expert level experience building and deploying data science products using AWS tools, SQL, GitHub, and Pytorch and knowledge of C++
- Strong project management experience and is comfortable working with a diverse, distributed and talented group of team members
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
- Demonstrates a proactive mindset, thriving in uncharted territories with the resilience and creativity to navigate ambiguity and deliver solutions in the face of obstacles
What the job involves
- We are seeking a Senior Data Scientist to play a key role in advancing our physiological feature pipeline and pushing the boundaries of what’s possible with biomarker and wearable health data
- This role is ideal for an experienced ML expert who has clinical research expertise around health data, thrives in ambiguous problem spaces, and brings a balance of hands-on technical depth and strategic thinking
- You will work within our Product Science team, and we seek a data scientist who thrives in dynamic environments and is prepared to pioneer in uncharted territory accompanied with a creative approach to algorithmic development
- Contribute to development of new human physiology based features and new sensor technology
- Transform multi-sensor data into actionable health metrics by combining insights from diverse biosensing technologies with state-of-the-art data science methodologies
- Develop reusable data analytics tools, which can be deployed at scale
- Actively participate in developing and refining the team’s strategic roadmap, innovating and prioritising initiatives, and aligning project goals with broader organisational objectives
- Lead data collections, write scientific reports, publications and white papers, and present findings internally (leadership and stakeholders) and externally (conferences, etc.)
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and overseas stakeholders
Our take
As smart watches with health and wellbeing monitoring functions are now an everyday norm, Oura is offering similar wearable technology with its series of rings. It’s one of a number of companies gaining serious traction in the market, along with the likes of Circular and Movano.
The company gained an early profile after its collaboration with Gucci which created mainstream publicity and may have given it a leg up on the competition. With the smart ring market forecast to keep growing, Oura certainly finds itself in a promising position as it moves to build out its operations and refine the product.
The bottom line for Oura will be customer satisfaction and demand, which does make its mixed reviews so far a little troubling. That said, the announcement of its new "Circles" social feature, on top of an integration with InsideTracker and acquisition of "wave to pay" company Proxy, all look set to increase the functionality of the ring and could well win more consumers over.
