To create the world's best bikes for city commuting.
E-Bike sales have been on the up over recent years, and one of the many beneficiaries is urban e-bike development and design company VanMoof. They’ve carved out a premium niche for themselves in the market, with models featuring automatic gear-shifting, anti-theft devices, and a laser-tight focus on new iterations and refinements.
VanMoof’s teaser-announcement of a 60 mph electric bike came alongside BMW’s launch of a similarly high-speed model, and this is causing a stir in regulatory circles. Rules across the US and the EU are tight when it comes to top speed, and regulators are proving hesitant about easing restrictions on what is still a relatively new product.
The market, however, appears optimistic about the prospects for such high-powered vehicles - and with good reason. There’s surging demand for more sustainable personal transport options, and the biking boom over recent years has seen greater investment in cycling infrastructure across the EU and USA. Policies are already shifting regarding bike-friendly city transformations, and game-changing products like VanMoof’s will prove pivotal in lobbying for more.
