Role
Who you are
- 7+ Years of Backend Experience: Demonstrated success in building large-scale, high-availability systems in Node.js, TypeScript, Rust, NestJS (or similar frameworks)
- Deep expertise in authentication protocols (OAuth2/OIDC, WebAuthn/Passkeys, OTP), Strong background in key management services (e.g. AWS KMS, Vault) and cryptography
- Web3/Crypto Knowledge: Familiarity with on-chain data, wallet integrations, or decentralized application patterns is strongly preferred
- Strong System Design & Architecture Skills: Ability to translate product requirements into scalable, maintainable solutions, with a keen eye for performance trade-offs and fault tolerance
- Leadership & Communication: Experience mentoring engineers, leading technical initiatives, and collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams
What the job involves
- You will own and evolve the core authentication infrastructure that secures every Phantom account
- Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you’ll lead the design, implementation, and operation of our hardened Auth stack, multi-factor authentication methods, and next-gen key-management services
- Your work will directly reduce account-takeover risk and empower every product team with rock-solid identity foundations
- Architect and ship production-grade improvements to Phantom’s Auth stack (e.g. secure enclaves, hardened token flows, threat modeling)
- Design, build, and scale Passkey support
- In Q4, deliver additional factors: authenticator-app integration and recovery-email/OTP flows
- Drive seedless KMS account provisioning for new users
- Lead the Juicebox→KMS migration with zero-downtime data transitions
- Define and maintain stable, versioned auth APIs for downstream teams (Frontend, Cash, Onboarding)
- Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure seamless, backward-compatible rollouts
- Establish SLAs, monitoring dashboards, and automated rollback/playbook scripts for all auth services
- Participate in on-call rotation, incident response, and write clear post-mortems
- Guide IC3+ engineers through design reviews, pair-programming, and technical best practices
- Evangelize secure-by-design principles across the organization

Phantom is a cryptocurrency wallet that creates a space for users to buy, send, receive, swap tokens and collect NFTs.
Phantom hosts the Solana blockchain, though Ethereum is generally more popular within the crypto world, Solana is said to have faster speeds and lower transaction costs. Offering the same wallet features as its competitors, the company are setting itself apart with newer features like the “Burn NFTs” feature allowing users to remove spam NFTs sent by attackers and support them in dodging NFT theft prevalent in the sector. The company prides itself on extremely high-security factors.
Founded in 2021 the company already has an impressive firm valuation of $1.2 billion. It might not be in the top-rated crypto wallets out there yet but the young company will likely join this list if it continues on this upward trajectory and continues to diversify itself by adding special features and product offerings.
