Role
Who you are
- Undergraduate (or higher) degree in a quantitative field (Mathematics, Science, Eng, or Social Sciences)
- Basic knowledge of Python (numpy, pandas, statsmodels, matplotlib, seaborn) or R (tidyverse: dplyr, data.table, ggplot2...etc.)
- Proven experience interpreting data and translating analytical results into impactful business strategies

What the job involves
- As a Data Analyst you will be a key member of Borrowell’s Data Analytics Team
- Your role will be pivotal in informing new marketing and product initiatives and powering the recommendations we personalize to each of our 3+ million members
- You'll provide a window into business performance and help to make recommendations on what we build next
- You can expect to be responsible for creating and managing insights, experimentations, forecasting, and reporting for various business partners at Borrowell
- You’ll monitor existing key performance indicators, explore new areas of data to drive business growth and product development, and make company data accessible, insightful and actionable to the different business divisions
- This role specifically focuses on being a data thought partner to a designated Product Manager and related cross-functional Product pod (in-house folks in engineering, devops, QA, mobile, and more)
- Data Modeling & Infrastructure: Build, maintain, and optimize data models daily using SQL and dbt to ensure a robust, high-quality data infrastructure
- Reporting & Forecasting: Deliver business reporting, forecasting, and actionable insights to guide business decisions, leveraging Looker (or similar BI tools)
- End-to-End Experimentation: Design, analyze, and validate statistical experiments to support product and business initiatives
- Data Proficiency: Write clean, efficient SQL queries using joins, aggregates, subqueries, and window functions to query and structure complex datasets
- Stakeholder Communication: Partner cross-functionally to translate complex analytics into clear, actionable business recommendations for both technical and non-technical audiences

There are hundreds of businesses providing loans, credit cards, mortgages, insurance, and banking services, and it is difficult to know which ones to choose without education and a credit check.
Borrowell provides a free credit scoring and financial education service, providing Canadians with a free weekly credit score and helping them to choose appropriate financial services. This is achieved through offering free tips and financial education content before recommending relevant companies, helping users to find the financial tools they need, whilst connecting fintech companies with new customers.
The oversaturation of companies in the fintech industry makes finding the right financial tools overwhelming, and therefore, Borrowell’s approach of advising users on finding the right services is a smart one. By offering the credit checking and product recommendation service for free, the company encourages Canadian citizens to be smart with their money while helping companies acquire new customers.
