Role
Who you are
- BS Industrial Engineering or other Engineering field preferred, or equivalent technical experience. MS/MBA preferred
- 7+ years of project management experience in multi-site ecommerce, fulfillment, distribution, manufacturing, or processing environments
- Experience with automated or semi-automated equipment implementation and/or optimization
- Extensive experience with Google Workspace
- Experience with project management software
- AutoCAD proficiency
- Experience with JIRA desired
- PMP certification desired
- Experience utilizing AI tools and workflows
What the job involves
- The Senior Engineering Project Manager is responsible for overseeing the successful development and implementation of engineering projects across the HelloFresh network. They will have the technical aptitude to challenge the Engineering team and the ability to influence without authority to negotiate with our partners to bring our projects to fruition
- Lead internal multidisciplinary teams to execute against assigned projects
- Execute projects with demanding schedules and aggressive cost targets often with changing requirements. Routinely assess project risks and identify alternative paths to offset risks
- Mentor more junior project managers in complex system integrations
- Lead cross-functional project prioritization workflow and scoping program, providing guidance to all stakeholders, facilitating the implementation of the project pipeline
- Complete activities to support near and long-term business strategies, such as identification of new technologies that can provide meaningful benefits, capital project justifications and oversight, and championing changes that drive measurable operational improvements
- Provide overall leadership and management to any assigned teams — ensuring key competencies are identified, developed, and maintained through internal talent or use of external resources
- Develop, improve, and maintain the project management process for the engineering organization and ensure project management best practices are followed
- Oversee and manage material handling equipment and warehouse projects. Serve as liaison between vendors and HelloFresh’s engineering team, maintenance, operations and HelloFresh’s technology group
- Communication: Independently manages cadence of communication, both formal and informal, and accurately relays information across all levels of the organization
- Critical thinking: Uses logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems
- Enterprising: Seek to take up and start new projects, both operational and strategic
- Creative: Challenge conventional methods and open to new ideas
- Driven by results: Push projects to completion with a sense of urgency. Focus on activities that have tangible business outcomes
- Organization: Able to construct organized project plans out from complex inputs & able to track project statuses across a large program. Maintains accurate record keeping throughout frequent project iterations
Our take
The food space has seen significant disruption in the last few years, whether it's the rapid expansion of takeaway delivery, online groceries or meal boxes. Consumer tastes are changing and there has been lots of innovation to try and get quality food in front of people more easily. HelloFresh is one of the drivers of that trend.
On the back of a boom in subscriptions during the pandemic, HelloFresh secured its place in the new food market. However, the cost-of-living crisis has meant that the company and its peers have faced dwindling subscriptions, resulting in layoffs and a need to refocus towards a more sustainable future for the business.
That said, HelloFresh still benefits from being a leader in the sector and from its B Corporation status - properties that mean it remains a top option for consumers who want to try meal kits. Only time will tell if the company can sustain its success moving forwards, at a time when its product, however enticing, is becoming less affordable for the general public.
