Who you are
- An influential technical leader with interpersonal skills, professional attitude and approach, and has the ability to interact with individuals at various levels of the organization

- Known for delivering polished, high quality presentations and reports that influence and accelerate business decision making
- BS Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or similar field required
- 8+ years of engineering experience in multi-site industrial distribution, manufacturing, or processing environments preferred
- Experience with Warehouse Conveyance (Right Angle Transfers, MDR, Sortation, Spirals, etc.) including working knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs)
- Hands-on mechanical aptitude and an ability to understand how equipment and systems operate
- Experience with using Warehouse Control Systems (WCS/WES) and Warehouse Management Systems (WMS)
- Experience with SQL (Snowflake, MSSQL) and advanced data visualization tools (Tableau, Grafana, etc.)
- Experience with AutoCAD
What the job involves
- The Lead Automation Engineer brings highly technical experience in designing, implementing, and improving Automation systems within the fulfillment network. This role works closely with functional stakeholders, vendors, and other engineers to solve ambiguous problems autonomously
- Principal point of contact with external vendors and system integrators to develop automated order fulfillment solutions utilizing top industry technology such as AMRs, Robotics, ASRS, sortation systems, etc
- Lead the design effort for implementing new technology within a distribution center; including creating detailed Requests for Quotes (RFQs) and requirements documentation to ensure a cohesive end-to-end design
- Lead data analytic efforts for designing and measuring success for Automation projects. Ability to extract clear and concise outputs from messy inputs
- Strong experience with optimizing Distribution Center layouts, material flows, Automation equipment, etc
- Work autonomously with cross-functional team members to ensure their business needs are met by new system designs
- Owner of business case justification for new technology and/or CapEx purchases
- Coach and mentor for junior engineers and team members, improving their technical and soft skills
- Ability to translate complex technical information into simple documentation and presentations, independently
- Excellent interpersonal skills, professional attitude, and approach (and the ability to interact with individuals at various levels of the organization, up and down)
Our take
The food space has seen significant disruption in the last few years, whether it's the rapid expansion of takeaway delivery, online groceries or meal boxes. Consumer tastes are changing and there has been lots of innovation to try and get quality food in front of people more easily. HelloFresh is one of the drivers of that trend.
On the back of a boom in subscriptions during the pandemic, HelloFresh secured its place in the new food market. However, the cost-of-living crisis has meant that the company and its peers have faced dwindling subscriptions, resulting in layoffs and a need to refocus towards a more sustainable future for the business.
That said, HelloFresh still benefits from being a leader in the sector and from its B Corporation status - properties that mean it remains a top option for consumers who want to try meal kits. Only time will tell if the company can sustain its success moving forwards, at a time when its product, however enticing, is becoming less affordable for the general public.
