Nonfungible tokens (NFTs) have become a popular commodity, and Big Time Studios is bringing them into the world of gaming. The company is developing the world’s first action game based on crypto technology, with the view to making NFTs accessible to a mass-market audience.
The company is creating technology that other gaming companies will be able to deploy but, in order to get to market and prove the concept, the studio is developing the first game of this kind, "Big Time". The title is an action role-playing game in which players acquire and trade NFT-based items, that has industry veterans from studios such as EpicGames and Blizzard on board for development.
With the ultimate goal of becoming the gold standard for what NFTs and crypto can offer gamers, the company was both well-regarded and anticipated in the community. Unfortunately, rather than invest the capital it raised from this anticipation into growth, the company invested in high-risk crypto lender Genesis, which has since become embroiled in the FTX scandal and filed for bankruptcy.
Despite the rather large setback, it is entirely possible that Big Time Studios still had a sizable runway yielded from the crypto boom, and only time will tell if the company manages to progress beyond this. For now, "Big Time" remains in closed Beta, only accessible to players holding NFT passes, and there is no way to tell when new news of the project will be announced.
