Role
Who you are
- 4+ years of experience in Customer Success, Account Management, or related roles—ideally working with state or local government agencies
- Understanding of public sector workflows, procurement processes, and funding cycles
- Ability to communicate technical concepts to a wide range of audiences from analysts to government executives
- Skilled in cross-functional collaboration with Sales, Product, Support, and Engineering teams
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple accounts and priorities
- Willingness to travel as needed
Desirable
- Prior experience working directly with U.S. state or municipal government agencies
- Knowledge of key public sector challenges—climate adaptation, land use planning, infrastructure resiliency, emergency response
- Proficiency with tools like ArcGIS, QGIS, or Google Earth Engine
- Experience navigating data-sharing agreements or government contract mechanisms
What the job involves
- As a Customer Success Manager focused on State and Local Government, you will serve as a trusted advisor to agencies across North America, helping them derive maximum value from Planet’s satellite imagery and geospatial solutions
- You’ll support mission-critical initiatives in areas such as emergency response, environmental monitoring, infrastructure planning, and natural resource management
- Your role will be to deepen customer engagement, drive adoption of Planet products, and identify growth opportunities within your portfolio
- You’ll work across a range of state and municipal agencies building relationships, understanding regional priorities, and translating challenges into impactful geospatial solutions
- Build trusted relationships with state and local government customers to help them achieve strategic goals using Planet’s technology
- Drive product adoption through onboarding, training, and tailored guidance on best practices
- Identify expansion and renewal opportunities, partnering with Sales to secure long-term value for customers
- Advocate for customer needs internally, surfacing feedback to influence product development and roadmap prioritization
- Collaborate with Sales, Product, and Marketing to develop use cases, success stories, and public sector engagement strategies
- Provide proactive support and account planning for key renewals, budget cycles, and legislative timelines

Planet’s high resolution, high frequency Earth-imaging satellites make daily changes in the earth more visible, allowing the company to provide quick turnaround geo-spatial data to its customers. The company was founded by a group of former NASA employees driven by a desire to make global change more actionable by rendering it more visible.
Planet operates the largest Earth-imaging satellite network available, putting it ahead of any competitors. Its landmass data is easy to access, requiring only a subscription from its members - who range from ecological organizations, to private companies and government bodies. The company is also supporting SES and Telesat on their space relay projects for NASA.
The current focus of Planet seems to be on employing its network towards climate and environmental issues. A partnership with Accenture comes with the goal of developing AI-powered geospatial intelligence tools to support sustainability projects; and the company's acquisition of Salo Sciences will allow it to develop offerings around enabling customers to quantify carbon stocks, monitor forest change, and mitigate climate risks.
