Who you are
- BS or MS degree in an engineering discipline or equivalent experience
- 5+ years of experience in engineering, program management, or management consulting with a focus on product development
- Success in leading complex cross-functional technical programs from start to finish
- Comfortable leading through ambiguity and enabling teams to perform in this environment
- Excellent written, presentation, and verbal communication skills are a must

- Experience with autonomous vehicles or other complex, safety-critical systems

What the job involves
- The Program Management Office (PMO) at Zoox is responsible for driving cross-functional program planning and execution at the highest level
- We partner with leaders from across the company in vehicle development, system design, software engineering, manufacturing, fleet operations, and business functions to develop and deliver major corporate milestones on the path to launch, and beyond
- Our program managers contribute to the end to end success of technical, integrated product milestones involving both of our vehicle platforms - the Toyota Highlander test fleet and Zoox’s purpose-built robotaxi
- The Autonomy Technical Program Manager (TPM) in PMO is an experienced cross-functional program management leader that will be responsible for planning and execution of technical and integrated product milestones for our vehicle platforms
- This person will work on programs to develop, validate, and improve our autonomous driving system, ultimately enabling the Zoox robotaxi to serve riders in a rapidly expanding operational design domain
- Partner with a wide range of department managers to translate the top-down corporate strategy and milestones into detailed technical roadmaps, timelines, and deliverables
- Influence key decisions working cross-functionally across engineering, product, operations, and strategy to reach the right outcomes
- Establish standard reports to provide concise and effective communications to key stakeholders on program status, issues/risks, and accomplishments
- Define, develop, and track new KPIs and other methods to measure performance that best translate progress towards goals
- Ensure program goals are aligned with business objectives; build and sustain momentum among cross-functional TPMs and workstreams towards delivering on time and on target
- Maintain a strong technical understanding of our vehicle platforms, software lifecycle, safety clearance process, and test operations
Our take
Zoox, a self-driving vehicle company, was founded to make personal transportation safer and more enjoyable for all. It has aimed to achieve this goal by creating a new mode of driverless transportation, thus eradicating the safety and logistical issues that come with human drivers.
It revealed its custom vehicle design in December 2020, showcasing something different from just a car without a driver. Uniquely, all four wheels are independent of one another, and the vehicles have no front or back, making them more agile than a standard car. Zoox claims that it is different from other industry players because it has created an entire driverless ecosystem, including the vehicle itself, allowing it to have more control.
The company is fast becoming a major player in an industry that is predicted to be worth $2 trillion by 2030. Electric motors are highly desirable, particularly in an urban environment, as governments look for ways to reduce emissions and improve air quality. Zoox is aiming to play a vital role in this evolution towards more sustainable urban mobility. Amazon acquired the company in 2020 and, despite a general downturn in the sector through 2022, is building a Zoox factory and budgeting $1 billion per year for future development and production.
