Role
Who you are
- Depth of XP: 6+ years of Design and UX experience within high traffic digital consumer products (100,000+ visitors per day), preferably in gaming, video, search/discovery or social
- Type of XP: Experience working on UX for feature dense products like Medal. Making clear UX amidst many diverse user needs
- Platform: Experience working across mobile and desktop, across multiple screen sizes and resolutions
- Strong taste: A portfolio that demonstrates a sense for strong visual aesthetics. Strong command of visual design principles
- In-person: 5 days per week in NYC
- Gaming: A passion for online communities and gaming culture
- Skilled in Figma
- Interest in UX research: Experienced in conducting qualitative research on users
- High growth start-up alignment: Enjoys working in a fast-paced environment. Comfortable with demanding timelines. Results oriented and comfortable being measured against metrics
- Design process: You'll spend time lifting the design org as a whole by integrating best practices with limited direction from leadership
- Communication: Strong collaboration skills and can communicate well both synchronously and asynchronously
- Technical familiarity: Understanding of CSS and its impact on design. Familiar with how design translates to code is a plus
What the job involves
- Fully immerse yourself into Medal’s Recorder, Editor and Social features to roll out a new and improved product experience
- Work side-by-side with Product and Engineering to design new products and iterate on existing products, delivering best-in-class experiences, user research, and prototyping for our desktop, web, and mobile apps
- Communicate with Medal’s users to intimately understand and translate their wants and needs into meaningful products and experiences
- Build and test prototypes early and often to validate and communicate ideas and gain new insights along the way, translating winning prototypes and validated ideas into successful designs
- Understand product and business objectives and use data to iterate and inform the design and product decisions
- Contribute to and help shape the product roadmap, both short term, and long-term
- Create designs that are beautiful, consistent, and pointed to as a great example of a best-in-class digital experience, across the social and gaming industry and beyond
Our take
Video games have become highly social experiences due to multiplayer gaming, eSports, and social media, spawning a huge market for audiences who enjoy watching gaming-related video content. Gamers commonly stream games and edit the footage to produce memes and engage with friends, but this requires many software tools and a separate platform on which to share experiences.
Medal.tv provides a social platform for gaming video clips, allowing users to record and edit footage, make gaming memes, and share content with friends within the same software. The platform collects in-game data to mitigate cheating and cyberbullying and integrates directly into any Windows or Android game.
Whilst the company will face great competition from platform giants such as Youtube, TikTok, and Twitch, Medal.tv shows the potential to stand out by being specifically designed for gaming content. Furthermore, the platform’s accessible video capturing and editing interface keeps the end-to-end social gaming experience within the same platform, making it more convenient and immersive for gamers than on other platforms.
