Who you are
- Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, advertising, communications, or relevant field
- 10+ years of professional copywriting/ copy editing experience
- Experience developing copy for products, marketing, or PR
- Ability to create a creative copy vision, defining voice and tone for a brand
- Have an interest in anime, pop culture, animation, video games and tech
- Familiarity with the localization process
- An interest in pop, gaming and anime culture
What the job involves
- We are looking for a Associate Creative Director, Copy to join our in-house creative services group
- You will join a vibrant internal creative team supported by insights-driven strategists and data analysts -- and is ideal for someone of both in-house and agency life. You will develop the Crunchyroll brand voice and reviewing and editing copy from a team of writers
- You will report into the Creative Director of the Conceptual team
- Review and edit external-facing copy from a team of writers across all touch points of the brand, including digital ads, emails, push notifications, live events, and other external
- Help hone the Crunchyroll Brand Voice guidelines
- Ensure consistency with brand voice and tone guidelines across multiple channels
- Collaborate with marketing, design, events, and audience development to create compelling copy across all marketing channels
- Define and maintain the voices and tone guidelines of the Crunchyroll brand for market material
- Support creative campaign planning

Despite this growth, distribution has historically posed challenges, with series and films often reaching overseas audiences through disparate channels, if at all. Crunchyroll emerged to address this issue by consolidating the largest collection of anime into a single streaming service.
Sony's acquisition of Crunchyroll in 2021 for $1.75B expanded the platform's reach, integrating Sony's extensive animation library into its offerings. this move also positioned Crunchyroll for heightened competition against streaming giant Netflix, known for its substantial investments in anime production and acquisition. Currently, Crunchyroll maintains an unrivaled library of anime content, boasting over 44,000 episodes that have attracted over 0M paying subscribers.
While Crunchyroll initially offered a free, ad-supported tier to its vast community, it appears poised to phase out this option, transitioning to a subscription-based model for all new series. Despite this shift, the platform has implemented a global reduction in fees to stimulate subscription uptake. The success of this strategy remains to be seen, but past experiences with companies like Hulu suggest that it may drive subscription growth and mitigate piracy
