- You are passionate about test quality, and want to define the future of automation in the life sciences
- This role is perfect for a software engineer who loves to test, automate and up level the quality of the products they work on
- 3+ years in a device SQA position
- Familiar with scripting languages such as Python
- Experience with issues tracking tools such as JIRA
- Experience with QA automation
- Experience authoring test procedures
- Experience working with Linux style systems and traversing a system in terminal
- You have demonstrated experience balancing good quality practices and delivering
- You are a solutions oriented contributor with a bias towards action over perfection
- A desire to be hands-on testing
- You are comfortable with exposed electronics and unfinished hardware
What the job involves
- You'll join a team of innovative thinkers who love to experiment, collaborate, and win together
- The Instrument Software Quality Engineer will report to the Head of Electrical and Software Engineering and be a primary trusted interdisciplinary partner to help ensure the device software quality exceeds customer expectations within Volta
- Areas of work include managing software releases, authoring, running and reporting on smoke and regression tests, and general bug finding and documentation
- Facilitate the release and deployment of device software to our fleet of instruments
- Work closely with the biology team to determine software quality success criteria
- Work closely with the SW dev team to test bug fixes and new features
- Debug instrument issues as they arise day to day, and create bug tickets as necessary

- Facilitate the authoring of both software feature tickets as well as software bug tickets to ensure tickets are in include information such as success, criteria, and test criteria

- Be the software quality voice of the consumer, empowered to approve or reject software releases
- Establish best practices, and capabilities for the SQA function
- Facilitate in the design development and execution of manufacturing system test
Our take
The world has undergone a genomic revolution. What the entire world could not do two decades ago - sequence a human genome - a scientist can easily do today and the adoption of sequencing technology is continuing to rapidly increase. Despite these ongoing advancements, preparing samples for sequencing remains a bottleneck, with scientists being held back by existing solutions for sample preparation.
Disruptive innovation is required in order to unlock the true utility of genomics and Volta Labs is taking on that challenge. The Massachusetts-based company is creating a programmable approach to DNA sample preparation with a platform that is providing simple, flexible, and powerful solutions.
What started as a simple graduate project quickly evolved into building biological automation from the ground up. Volta has seen steady growth since its inception in 2018. With the backing of several investment organizations, the company has launched its product to the public and is partnering with genomics tech companies to perfect its sequencing software.
