Who you are
- This global role is ideal for a highly driven individual with a strong commercial mindset and the flexibility to travel frequently, meeting new suppliers and closing high-level deals with CXO stakeholders, passport ready!
- Would suit an ex-management Consultant or Banking profile
- You are a driven deal-maker and world-class relationship builder with a passion for scaling businesses across borders.
- 8+ years of business and commercial/finance or consulting background
- 5+ years of experience leading a sales team to achieve ambitious sales targets
- Experience in a fast-growth startup environment - ideally within the tech industry
- Passion and experience in developing successful teams
- Success record in complex commercial negotiations with high-profile international clients
- Success record of regional and product launches
- Experience managing operations in a scalable way
- Proven ability to work and drive cross-functional deliverables
- An innovative mindset to go beyond standards and legacy of the industry today
- Fluent in English; another language a plus!
What the job involves
- Brand new role created, Head of / Commercial Director Level, this role will target all of Omio's non-core markets.
- Help with Omio’s Global Expansion: Drive Impact, Close Deals, and empower global travellers to discover, book, and enjoy seamless journeys across transportation modes — anywhere in the world
- We are seeking a bold, strategic, and entrepreneurial Global Business Expansion Leader to define and execute Omio’s next chapter of growth
- In this high-impact role, you will spearhead our global inventory expansion, focusing on non-core and emerging markets to unlock new revenue streams and accelerate international sales
- As a global traveller and commercial leader, you’ll thrive on navigating complexity, spotting opportunity, and forging high-value partnerships that shape the future of travel
- Set the Vision & Strategy: You'll design and lead a comprehensive global expansion roadmap to grow Omio’s inventory footprint in high-potential, underdeveloped regions
- Own Commercial Growth: Build and lead a high-performing regional sales and business development team focused on ambitious sales and revenue targets
- Be the Face of Omio: Growing new relationships, representing the company in person at senior levels across our targeted industries globally
- Negotiate Like a Pro: Drive complex, high-value commercial partnerships and negotiations with C-level stakeholders and strategic partners worldwide
- Collaborate to Win: Partner cross-functionally with senior leaders across Finance, Product, Engineering, Marketing, and CS to drive alignment and deliver on global business objectives
Our take
The internet has made traveling extremely easy in comparison to the past, with information on most public transport methods and routes being available online. Despite this abundance of information, complex trips often require research and fare comparison across many different websites, a process that calls for a more integrated solution.
Omio provides a universal travel comparison tool for trains, buses, flights, ferries, and airport transfers across over 1,000 worldwide travel partners. Whilst there are many existing comparison platforms for specific transport methods such as Skyscanner for flights and TheTrainLine for buses, Omio has taken a unique approach by providing information on all major public transport methods within an integrated app. Furthermore, the company’s inspiration magazine The Window Seat and mobile application contribute towards an end-to-end travel assistant that stands out from competitors.
In 2024, the company raised debt funding to revive temporarily put-on hold global expansion activities, including through strategic mergers and acquisitions. While it has re-approached earlier expansion plans, the company is doing so with greater discipline, with plans to expand into Southeast Asia in 2025.
