Who you are

  • BS degree in Computer Science or related technical field involving coding (e.g., physics or mathematics), or equivalent technical experience

  • Our Privacy Engineering team is crucial in ensuring that our products maintain the highest standards of user privacy and data security
  • In this role, you will architect and deliver scalable systems ensuring user privacy and data security across Dropbox products
  • You will work closely with product managers, designers, and user researchers to understand user needs and lead various stages of product development

  • Additionally, you will collaborate with other engineering teams and functions within Dropbox, balancing business impact, user experience, and technical quality
  • You will articulate a technical vision for enhanced privacy and data security and work with multi-functional partners to deliver that vision
  • You will translate latest computational research on enforcing Privacy into a Product roadmap
  • You will write full-stack code, understanding root causes, and leading by example in technical excellence
  • You will have proficiency in utilizing Data to drive product metrics (ML or Decision Science is not needed but good to have)
  • You will partner with product managers, designers, and analysts to deeply understand the needs of our users and build products that serve those needs
  • You will develop and execute against both short and long-term roadmaps, making effective tradeoffs between business impact, user experience, and a high-quality technical foundation
  • You will own relationships with other engineering teams and collaborate with other functions within Dropbox
  • Many teams at Dropbox run Services with on-call rotations, which entails being available for calls during both core and non-core business hours
  • If a team has an on-call rotation, all engineers on the team are expected to participate in the rotation as part of their employment

Our take

Dropbox started by helping people bring together their files in one central place. The contents of these folders are synchronised to Dropbox's servers along with other computers and devices where the user has installed Dropbox, keeping the same files up-to-date across all devices.

Nowadays, there are lots of competing companies in cloud storage, and some with better distribution (e.g. Google and Apple). This explains why Dropbox is making a big push to reinvent itself after a fairly disappointing run since its IPO in 2018. The new Dropbox turns folders into "Spaces", which are collaboration hubs for teams, complete with comment streams, artificial intelligence tools and integrations into services such as Slack.

The company continues to build out its offerings through acquisitions, such as that of Formswift, bolstering its end-to-end agreement workflow capabilities. Indeed, It's very clear that Dropbox is trying to make a big move from being just a storage company. This seems to be a necessary move given the competitive nature of the industry it is operating within.
