Role
Who you are
- B.S. in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related discipline
- 4+ years experience in automotive, EV, or aerospace
- Ability to read technical drawings, GD&T and navigate CAD models
- Broad technical background with mechanical and electrical systems, experience with chassis, thermal or powertrain systems would be highly desired
- Strong failure analysis abilities and poke-yoke
- Experience performing root cause analysis on electrical and mechanical systems
- Ability to effectively communicate investigation findings and technical information

- QMS, SAP, 3DX experience
- SQL, Python
- Experience building test equipment
What the job involves
- The Field Quality Engineer will support the Field Quality Team. The Quality Engineer will develop, document, and implement troubleshooting and investigatory methods for Zoox vehicle components
- This position will foster strong cross-functional partnerships to improve Zoox products and the customer experience
- The Engineer will use their technical background to perform failure analysis on vehicles and at the bench, record their findings, and communicate critical information to the cross-functional team
- Develop and document troubleshooting test methods with cross-functional teams to root cause failed components
- Coordinate with the BaseOps team on field service campaigns
- Design review and feedback to respective design teams
- Specify and source new equipment for failure analysis
- Work with the Reliability Team to identify and communicate trends within Zoox
- Create/update quality documentation
- Perform RCAs, drive investigations and product/process improvements
- Travel to service locations to review field failures (10-25% travel)
Our take
Zoox, a self-driving vehicle company, was founded to make personal transportation safer and more enjoyable for all. It has aimed to achieve this goal by creating a new mode of driverless transportation, thus eradicating the safety and logistical issues that come with human drivers.
It revealed its custom vehicle design in December 2020, showcasing something different from just a car without a driver. Uniquely, all four wheels are independent of one another, and the vehicles have no front or back, making them more agile than a standard car. Zoox claims that it is different from other industry players because it has created an entire driverless ecosystem, including the vehicle itself, allowing it to have more control.
The company is fast becoming a major player in an industry that is predicted to be worth $2 trillion by 2030. Electric motors are highly desirable, particularly in an urban environment, as governments look for ways to reduce emissions and improve air quality. Zoox is aiming to play a vital role in this evolution towards more sustainable urban mobility. Amazon acquired the company in 2020 and, despite a general downturn in the sector through 2022, opened its first Zoox factory for robotaxis in 2025, and is testing the autonomous vehicles in multiple cities in the US.
