Role
Who you are
- 8+ years of experience leading engineering teams
- Proven track record of building products and taking them to market
- Very comfortable working in a fast-paced startup environment and building out systems, tools, and processes from the ground up
- Analytical, data-driven, and can apply strategic thinking to problem solve
- Extensive knowledge of server/client architectures, engineering principles, and deploying new technology
- Strong understanding of cloud-based solutions considering connectivity, security, permissions, and encryption
- Ability to drive implementation of a scalable release and OTA strategy, including software and config versioning and system updates/upgrades
- Ability to build out testing frameworks and test automation
- Experience with the following: Google Cloud ecosystem, Containerization including Kubernetes, Python and/or C++ coding, CI/CD pipelines. Plus: Experience in robotics and robotics simulation
What the job involves
- Lead all development of the frontend and frontend services deployed in the TWA system
- Lead all development of the cloud and infrastructure used to run the TWA Reach trucks and allow for log handling
- Lead the DevOps team and build class-leading development tools and robust monitoring and reporting pipeline
- Lead the QA team and develop processes, automation of tests, and simulation tools
- Design strategies for future development projects based on the company’s overall objectives and resources
- Work cross-functionally and oversee architecture and design for future-proof system changes
- Lead a team of SDMs, leads, and individual contributors
- Drive implementation of innovative solutions and technologies
- Sponsor the TWA agile sprint development process and drive for excellence
- Set the team growth strategy and hire key talent for TWA, including onboarding and growth
- Collaborate with external partners and stakeholders for successful TWA deployments and drive innovation by leveraging external companies and technologies
- Review and update policies relevant to internal systems and equipment

Third Wave Automation produces 'shared autonomy' forklifts that are controlled in mass fleets by a remote operator. Whilst its core aim is to optimize workflows in warehouses and reduce employment costs, the company also believes that its AI-forklifts will reduce forklift-related workplace injuries in the US.
Third Wave Automation claims that competitors automate only a fraction of the functionality of a forklift, unable to complete tasks such as reaching high places. The company has integrated artificial intelligence and machine learning to their forklifts, aiming to eventually remove the human remote-controller all together, and has secured impressive funds that will enable it to accelerate innovation, expand its pilot program, and strive towards new solutions for automating other classes of forklifts.
