Role
Who you are
- A software engineer with 6+ years of professional experience in back end services and infrastructure
- Excited about building for other engineers
- Experienced building and scaling API or ETL systems
- Experienced with Node, Typescript, and Postgres. However, languages can be learned: we care much more about your general engineering skill than your understanding of a particular language or framework
Desirable
- Experience in or passion to learn about the fintech space
- Experience building integrations and managing several external dependencies
- Experience working with remote teams across different time zones
What the job involves
- Scale our system horizontally to handle the volume of multiple enterprise clients
- Drive infrastructure decisions that will be the foundation for our backend
- Build the platform that enables our team to deliver new features and products rapidly and reliably
- Work on server-side development and optimization of data, including database creation and management and debugging
- Build the alerting, testing, tooling, and QA processes needed to make maintenance of external dependencies easy
- Improve the core systems that we use in order to build integrations in order to help Rutter become a first-in-class universal API
- Integrate data from various back-end services and databases
Our take
Rutter is on a mission to enable new commerce experiences. The company offers a universal API for reading and writing data across different commerce platforms. In doing so, it accelerates the development of new commerce and financial services by removing the complexities of dealing with different eCommerce storefronts, payment processors, and accounting systems.
As an example, if a company wanted to serve merchants and SMBS across Shopify, Amazon, and BigCommerce, they would have to build integrations for each platform one at a time. Rutter’s API removes the need to do so, saving valuable engineering hours and maintenance costs.
In 2022, the company received funding to accelerate its progress in becoming the infrastructure for the world’s commerce applications, investing in scaling out its engineering and go-to-market teams in preparation for expansion. With this in mind, it can be expected the company will be seeking growth soon, and it will be interesting how it sets about these expansion efforts in the coming years.
