Role
Who you are
- 7+ years of experience designing software products, preferably in a fast-paced startup or tech company
- Experience leading designers or teams at an initiative level
- Seeks to understand the why before the how, and grounds their work in terms of user problems, business priorities and product strategy
- Experience designing screens in Figma, sharing for feedback, and incorporating feedback from users, customers, and teammates (engineers and product managers)
- Excellent storytelling skills and ability to influence decisions at all levels of an organization
- Track record of delivering products that drive meaningful business impact in complex, real-world industries
- Strong understanding of design principles, typography, color theory, and layout. Experience with GIS or mapping is a plus
- Passionate about making a difference in the world through their work
What the job involves
- You will lead UXR to uncover needs, validate concepts and bring clarity to complex problems
- You will partner with our Head of Product to prioritize the most impactful opportunities for our customers - balancing user value, technical feasibility, and business goals
- You will design and launch world class web experiences that support critical workflows in commercial shipping
- You will champion design excellence by proactively identifying gaps and continuously improving our design systems, patterns and ways of working
- You will partner with a diverse group of XFN experts, spanning routers, customer success, engineers, product and scientists, to build a world leading voyage optimization product
Our take
Drastically changing weather and climate is one of the foremost issues of our time. And as we work to limit the impact of the climate crisis, we need trustworthy banks of data on how these changes have manifested, and what trajectory our world is on. This is where Solar Ocean comes in, with its global network of ocean-monitoring buoys.
It is the largest network of its kind, with thousands of solar-powered ‘spotters’ across the world’s oceans delivering over 200,000 updates every day. Its product is used primarily by climate scientists, but also has important applications in shipping, weather forecasting and maritime research as well.
Sofar is the largest network of its kind, and even though its spotters aren’t as sophisticated as similar government-funded ones, the sheer scale of its data collection makes its forecasts far more accurate. The funding it has raised is supporting the further extension of its network and development of its data services.
