Role
Who you are
- You must be able to work full time hours immediately upon being hired, we are not hiring for the future, we are hiring for today
- High level languages (Go, Java, Python, Node.js)
- An understanding of functional or object-oriented programming
- Ability to learn quickly
- A desire to work in a fast-paced and challenging environment
- Effective communication, including the ability to translate and explain technical issues to non-technical team members
- You have experience with:
- Object oriented or functional programming languages
- Relational and eventually consistent databases (MongoDB, Postgres, MySQL)
- Version control system (Git)
- Test writing and quality assurance
- System Design
Desirable
- Full-stack development (Kotlin, Javascript, React, Swift)
- Messages queue and event streaming (Kafka, Kinesis, Redis Streams)
- Continuous development
- In-memory data stores and caches (Redis, Memcache)
- Distributed systems
What the job involves
- Fetch’s next step in evolving the shopping experience will require growing the engineering team
- We’re looking for Backend Engineer Apprentice to contribute immediately and work on real features that impact our customers and partners
- You will build highly performant backend services to integrate seamlessly with our data stores, message queues, mobile and web platforms, and other systems
- You’ll be working on a small, multi-functional team that may include other engineers, a designer, product manager, data scientist and other roles
- Success in this role requires the ability to take on challenging problems and design & develop an amazing solution with light mentorship of an experienced team member
- This is a 3 month program where you will be given challenging and meaningful work
- You will gain incredible experience and grow as an engineer
- There is no expectation that this role will convert to a full time employee
- 40 hours per week of work, minimum
- There are no health benefits during the apprenticeship
Our take
Leading mobile shopping and loyalty platform Fetch has seen explosive success in recent years. Its concept is simple: users receive spendable points in exchange for scans of their shopping receipts.
The app has tens of millions of daily active users with even more downloads, and has seen impressive growth, having now reached 'unicorn' status twice over. This should come as no surprise. Brand reinforcement is crucial to customer retention and acquisition - but it is harder than ever, with the fragmentation of choice on the market and the declining efficacy of marketing. So material loyalty benefits are likely to prove a crucial tool in creating and leveraging a strong customer base.
Whilst Fetch faces competition from similar receipt-scan rewards platforms like ReceiptPal and Ibotta, it grew into a profitable company in late 2023. And its using its most recent Morgan Stanley-backed funding to aggressively add brand partners at a competitive pace and onboard staff at a level that promises strong continued growth.
