Who you are
- At least 8+ years of experience in product management, with a proven track record of delivering successful products with a core user being an Operations Engineering role (or adjacent)
- Experience in incident management in startups, government, ITSM, or related fields is a plus
- Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to lead and inspire people that may not be reporting directly into you
- Deep understanding of product management methodologies, tools, and best practices
- Ability to think strategically and develop a product vision and roadmap that aligns with business goals
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and persuade stakeholders
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to use market data to make informed decisions
- Experience or proven ability to work in a fast-paced startup environment and ability to adapt to changing priorities and market conditions
- Jeli is looking for a startup-obsessed, incident-management enthusiast, seasoned product manager, who understands the impacts incidents have on businesses, their reputations, and their bottom lines
What the job involves
- You will be responsible for leading the product roadmap and driving the development of our products
- You will work closely with our CEO (defining the product vision), marketing, engineering, designers, and other stakeholders to define our product strategy and roadmap, while honing our vision
- Working directly with a team of engineers and designers to execute on the roadmap, prioritize features; you’ll ensure the development of high-quality products that meet our users' needs
- You will also be responsible for conducting gap analysis with competitors, monitoring the market, and aligning our product strategy with our business goals
- Develop and implement our product strategy, roadmap, and vision in collaboration with our CEO and other stakeholders
- Execute on the roadmap, prioritize features, and ensure the development of high-quality products that meet our users' needs
- Conduct gap analysis with competitors, monitor the market, and align our product strategy with our business goals
- Define product requirements and work closely with engineering, design, and other stakeholders to ensure their successful implementation
- Drive product innovation and new product development to meet our users' needs and stay ahead of the competition
- Work closely with our marketing and sales teams to develop product messaging, positioning, and go-to-market strategies
- Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to team members working on the product and help them develop their skills and careers
- Collaborate with Jeli leadership to ensure that our products are delivered on time, within budget, and with high quality
- Be the voice of the customer, and also the potential customer and ensure that their needs and feedback are reflected in our product decisions (including weighted importance)
- In your first 30 days you will:
- Review our competitive analysis in place and identify gaps in both the analysis and our product vision
- Meet with each person in the organization – there’s only 22 of us, and you’ll be interfacing with every role
- In your first 60 days you will:
- Meet with 30 different users, 15 different customers, and sit in on 6 different sales calls
- Participate in a big bet we are already taking
- Research potential big bets we should think about
- Deep research into our ICPs and parlaying that into our pricing strategies
- In your first 90 days you will:
- Identify a big bet we should take on, based on your market research
- Lead the launch of this new bet working closely with marketing and sales teams to develop product messaging and positioning that resonates with our target audience
Our take
Jeli was founded when CEO Nora Jones was looking into learning from Incidents in software but failed to find a tool that actually helped. The company now offers an incident analysis platform, drawn from years of research across aviation, fire departments, and technology companies.
Jeli sets itself apart by not replacing humans with machines in the process, instead enhancing people's work. They recently launched a free Slack IR Bot which enables teams to respond to incidents in real time. This approach has been successful, attracting impressive clients including Zendesk, Indeed, and Xero.
The company has raised serious funding, and this is being invested into scaling operations and widening its customer base. With 2022 capital combined with the August 2023 launch of a ChatGPT Beta for quicker incident response, Jeli is well set to make an impact in this space.
