Role
Who you are
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, or a related field. A strong academic background with coursework in data structures, algorithms, and software development is preferred
- 7+ years software development experience at a venture-backed startup or top technology firm, with a focus on distributed systems and platform engineering
- Proficiency in building backend and distributed systems using technologies such as Python, Java, or Go
- Deep understanding of scalable system design, performance optimization, and resilience engineering
- Extensive experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS)
- Working experience with one or more of the following: Kafka, ElasticSearch,m PostgreSQL, and/or Redis
- Ability to analyze complex problems, propose innovative solutions, and effectively communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Proven experience in leading software development projects and collaborating with cross-functional teams. Strong interpersonal and communication skills to foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment
- Enthusiasm for continuous learning and professional growth. A passion for exploring new technologies, frameworks, and software development methodologies
- Embraces rapid prototyping with an emphasis on user feedback
- Autonomous and excited about taking ownership over major initiatives
What the job involves
- As a Staff Backend Engineer at Hebbia, you will play a critical role in designing, developing, and delivering high-quality software solutions that support our AI-driven products and services
- You will own major system components from design through deployment
- You will have close feedback loops with users and with our Customer Success team
- You will work closely with a cross-functional team of engineers and domain experts to architect scalable systems, implement robust software components, and ensure the reliability and performance of our software platforms
- Your technical expertise, leadership abilities, and problem-solving skills will contribute to the success of our AI products and shape the future of our technology stack
- Own critical system components: Take complex requirements and turn them into robust, scaled solutions that solve real customer needs
- Unlock O(1) universal indexing: Build and iterate on our high-scale document build system that enables constant time latency for indexing any content in the world, regardless of data volume
- Drive performance optimization: Architect and implement performance-tuning solutions to ensure our systems operate efficiently at scale, minimizing latency and maximizing throughput across millions of documents
- Meet with users: Serve as a deployed engineer to build customer empathy that enables us to create innovative solutions that drive meaningful value
- Mentor and guide: Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to junior engineers, fostering a culture of learning and growth
Our take
Founded in 2020, Hebbia is an AI-powered search engine that processes complex requests through the use of deep learning techniques and models that aid in knowledge graph work, semantic analysis, and AI.
The first product the company produced was a Chrome plugin that upgrades the search function to reach beyond traditional text pattern matching, and instead begins to comprehend the query and how answers might be given on the page.
Raising funding from Peter Thiel, Index Ventures, Jerry Yang (Yahoo founder), and Ram Sriram (one of the first Google investors) to name a few, capital has been put towards building the engineering team and accelerating the development of products on the platform, as well as expanding its customer base into that of the professional services industries.
