Role
Who you are
- You are a data scientist with at least 2 years of commercial experience
- You have experience of either:
- The analyses of time series and machine learning techniques applied to such, or
- The design and analysis of clinical trials, including the appropriate hypothesis testing and statistical modelling techniques
- You are skilled at coding in Python
- You understand the importance of effective visualization
- The idea of working within a successful, high-growth scale up in a fast-paced role excites you
- 2 years of commercial experience
- MSc/PhD in an analytical discipline, with a focus on mathematical, programming and problem-solving skills
- Programming skills in Python, with a focus on the numeric and scientific libraries
- Experience of versioning code with git and being comfortable on command line interface
- An understanding and experience in effective visualization (using matplotlib, seaborn, plotly, bokeh)
- Knowledge of SQL
- Excellent communication skills, both scientific and non-technical, with the ability to write reports, present, and discuss results
What the job involves
- We are looking for a full-time or part-time Data Scientist to join our award winning team. For this role, we would ideally like you to be able to commit to a minimum of 4 days per week
- We are seeking individuals who appreciate the need to understand their data from a biological or physical perspective before they start building models and who habitually consider the impact of their decisions on the end user
- We are expanding rapidly and as a Data Scientist embedded in the team in either London or Bristol, you will have a significant impact on new and existing products and contribute to developing the processes and tools used by the Data Team
- Design, perform, and analyse physical experiments using the sensors employed in Elvie products, with a focus on repeatability, accuracy and replication of the use of the product in the wild
- Design and analyse user trials with a view to understand how our products are used in real life, and how to continue improving the user experience
- Provide answers to business questions using data from our product databases
- Develop algorithms using appropriate machine learning and signal processing techniques
- Import, clean and process data from a variety of sources (in-app user behaviour, multiple types of physical sensor, user surveys, etc.) using Python
- Practise critical thinking and understand the flaws and limitations to the experiments and analysis performed by yourself and others
- Contribute to developing novel products and algorithms, and be involved in generating a big picture of a solution, including technological choices, risks and opportunities, data requirements and limitations, costs and time frames
- Work collaboratively within the growing Data Team on challenging technical projects
- Provide nuanced and detailed analysis of data, to both technical and non-technical people to explain outcomes and facilitate decision making
- Provide expert opinion on the results of your analyses and your understanding of the relevant literature
- Share knowledge on best practices on data, statistics and the Data Science team’s work across the business
