Who you are
- At least 1+ year of professional experience
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science or similar field or equivalent
- Experience building client-side web applications for data-intensive applications
- Excellent understanding of modern JavaScript, typing in JS, HTML5, and CSS
- Experience with React/Flux (or equivalent), modern JavaScript tooling/Webpack/Babel
- Strong foundation in algorithms and application design
- Experience with writing/monitoring/managing large scale system deployments
What the job involves
- We are looking for a Frontend Software Engineer to join our Growth and Experiences team
- In your day to day, you will contribute to Confluent Cloud UI in Billing, Compute Platform, Connect, Kafka, Networking, and Trust & Security domains, build the tools, features, and processes that enable admins to maximize their productivity and success
- As a Frontend Software Engineer, you will utilize specialized knowledge in computer science, distributed data streams, client-side software development, code verification, large-scale systems deployment, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, React, algorithms, HCI design, and web application design to build web applications with new visualizations and interfaces scalable with Confluent Cloud
- Develop distributed data streams and intuitive data flow for client-side web applications
- Create new visualizations and interfaces that can scale with Confluent Cloud
- Collaborate with backend software engineers to ensure user experience is not compromised by performance constraints of backend APIs
- Work with designers to understand and implement component styling and interactions based on UI wireframes
- Collaborate with product managers to build a seamless user experience
- Create and execute test plans, obtaining stakeholder sign-off upon completion of development and testing
- Write, monitor, and manage large-scale system deployments
- Manage releases and ensure changes are verified through manual or automated testing
- Participate in the code review process to ensure code quality
- Develop tools to improve day-to-day workflows
Our take
Confluent is a commercial company built on top of the open-source Apache Kafka project. Confluent and Kafka have developed a streaming data technology that processes massive amounts of information in real-time. The streaming database technology was developed at LinkedIn as a way of moving massive amounts of messages. The company decided to open-source that tech in 2011, and Confluent launched as the commercial arm in 2014.
While the base open-source component remains available for free download, it doesn’t include the additional tooling the company has built to make it easier for enterprises to use Kafka. Confluent's value add is in those additional tools, including a cloud version of the product and a marketplace for sharing extensions to the platform.
Confluent expanded strategic partnerships with Microsoft and acquired Immerok, and in 2023 expanded its cloud platform. 2024 saw further product expansions with the launch of the Confluent Migration Accelerator, all exemplifying how the company is living up to its name by rocket-boosting the benefits of Apache Kafka integration for companies.
Now, it looks like IBM is eyeing the company for acquisition and Confluent looks to be a natural fit. Long positioned as the real-time backbone behind modern application, Confluent would gain global scale and an even deeper enterprise reach under iBM, while cementing its role at the center of AI-driven architectures. For COnfluent, the deal would marka shift from fast-growing independent disruptor to foundational infrastructure player powering the next wave of enterprise AI.
