Who you are
- 3-5 years of relevant experience in product analytics, preferably in financial services or fintech
- Advanced proficiency in SQL for data extraction and analysis
- Proven experience designing and analyzing A/B tests and statistical experiments
- Experience with product analytics tools and methodologies
- Proficiency with data visualization tools (Tableau, Looker, or similar)
- Experience with statistical analysis, hypothesis testing, and experimental design
- Familiarity with product analytics platforms (Heap, Fullstory, Amplitude, Mixpanel, or similar)
What the job involves
- We are seeking a detail-oriented Senior Product Analyst to support the Upgrade Personal Loans team with data-driven insights and experimentation
- In this role, you will design and analyze A/B tests, conduct product performance analysis, and provide Product Managers with accessible, actionable data to drive strategic decisions
- Your contributions will shape data-informed product decisions that enhance Upgrade's personal loan offerings and customer experience
- You will establish the analytical foundation that empowers the Product team to optimize conversion rates, boost customer satisfaction, and promote sustainable growth
- Your efforts will be crucial in helping Upgrade maintain its competitive edge in the personal lending space through rigorous experimentation and data-driven product development
- This role will be based in our San Francisco or Wilmington, Delaware office in a hybrid capacity, 2-3 times per week
- Design, implement, and manage A/B test frameworks for personal loan products and features
- Collaborate with Product Managers and Engineering teams to define test parameters, success metrics, and statistical requirements
- Conduct thorough test reads and statistical analysis to determine significance and business impact
- Document test methodologies, results, and recommendations for stakeholder consumption
- Develop and maintain comprehensive dashboards and reporting for personal loan product performance
- Monitor key product metrics including conversion rates, user engagement, loan origination volumes, and customer satisfaction
- Identify trends, anomalies, and opportunities through deep-dive analysis of product data
- Create automated reporting solutions to provide real-time insights to Product Managers
- Conduct exploratory data analysis to uncover customer behavior patterns and product optimization opportunities
- Research market trends and competitive landscape to inform product strategy
- Synthesize complex data findings into clear, actionable recommendations for product improvements
- Support product roadmap decisions with quantitative analysis and data-backed recommendations
- Build self-service analytics tools and resources for Product Managers to access key metrics independently
- Create and maintain data documentation, metric definitions, and analysis guidelines
- Train Product Managers on available data resources and analytical tools
- Establish data governance processes to ensure consistency and accuracy across product analytics
- Partner closely with Product Managers to understand business requirements and translate them into analytical solutions
- Work with Engineering teams to implement tracking and ensure data quality
- Collaborate with Credit Risk and Operations teams to understand product performance holistically
- Present findings and recommendations to leadership and stakeholders
Our take
Most credit cards don't encourage the owner to pay down their debt. The longer it takes to pay off the balance, the more money lenders are set to make. Upgrade is an online lender and card issuer doing things differently. The company offers personal loans and credit cards but with a fixed instalment structure and a set number of equal payments. This ensures the balance reduces every month.
The company believes this model reduces default rates, as borrowers are forced to pay down rather than maintain their debt, and it encourages a greater commitment to repay the balance. Further, by combining the ease of a Visa card with the fixed payments and decreased rates of a personal loan, Upgrade sets itself apart from competitors.
In 2021, Upgrade launched its mobile banking and debit card as a strategy to onboard new customers and increase loyalty. The fixed-rate nature of the company's cards is expected to be of use to customers in future years in an environment of rising rates. Upgrade also plans to expand beyond the U.S. in the future, which will represent new challenges for the business as it adapts to alternative regulations.
