Who you are
- We, (the team working on the Generative Shopping Experiences & Gen-AI Toolkit), are seeking individuals with a strong sense of curiosity and a problem-solving mindset—people who thrive on exploring new ideas and tackling challenges head-on
- If you are passionate about uncovering insights and finding innovative solutions to enhance the value our customers receive from Algolia through the application of AI or other creative methods, and if you possess the grit to persevere through obstacles, we would love to hear from you!
- Have 2+ years of engineering management experience and 5+ years of engineering experience
- Are an excellent communicator able to translate product requirements into technical tasks and vice-versa
- Have a mindset to take data driven decisions and analyzing impact of the changes you introduce
- Are fluent in Agile methodology and can lead a project from the idea to production
- Have worked on AI software solutions in the past
Desirable
- You have knowledge about challenges associated to running APIs & idempotent data processing pipelines at scale
- You have experience with Python, Go & GCP
- Are capable of jumping in the trenches with the engineerings — coding, managing incidents, handling on-call
What the job involves
- As a Team Lead in the AI Search Group, you will lead an engineering team working on a variety of topics in the applied Gen AI space
- Join the AI Search Group and help us enhance the generative AI solutions offering of Algolia
- By combining the precision of search with the creativity of AI, we're redefining how users interact with information. Our enhanced platform will not only retrieve relevant results but also generate insightful summaries, provide contextual understanding, and deliver intelligent recommendations—helping businesses unlock new levels of efficiency and engagement
- Our team consists of engineers (partly remote in Europe timezone, partly working in our Paris office), and we bring together a variety of skills and backgrounds
- Your experience, knowledge, and unique perspective will contribute to this diversity and empower the team to create impactful products
- Defining the overall technical direction and strategy for your team
- Mentoring and nurturing front and back software engineers and machine learning engineers, helping them grow in their career
- Being responsible for technical decisions taken by the team
- Working alongside the engineers to design and implement monitoring and alerting to ensure high availability, performance and reliability of your team's services
- Improving engineering quality, processes and tooling
- Collaborating with product managers and designers to help define the team roadmap (we follow a bottom-up approach)
- Interfacing with a wide range of teams to build and evangelize a solid growth foundation
Our take
While in-site searching has been available for some time from web search servers such as Google and Bing, its functionality is limited due to it relying on general web scraping techniques which can miss relevant information. By contrast Algolia indexes only the company's site, allowing its search to serve accurate results extremely swiftly, which helps to drive sales conversions aside from making sites far more usable. The efficacy of this solution can be seen from its customer base of over 10,000 companies including the likes of Slack, Zendesk and Lacoste.
To diversify and increase the product range, Algolia have expanded into other real-time APIs such as product recommendations available for eCommerce websites. With the company performing extremely well over the last few years, Algolia have recruited key senior executives to futher its growth. As the company continues to scale it seems likely that an IPO is not too distant a prospect.
