- 3–5 years of experience in program or project management, preferably in technology, media, or SaaS
- Proven ability to coordinate complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives from planning to delivery

- Excellent communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to influence and align stakeholders at all levels
- Hands-on experience with Jira, Confluence, or similar systems including administration, customization, and reporting
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies, with the ability to coach teams in best practices
- Analytical mindset with the ability to build program-level dashboards and track KPIs
- Collaborative and proactive, with a bias toward unblocking teams and driving momentum
- Fluency with AI tools to accelerate work and improve coordination

- As a Technical Program Manager, you will coordinate and drive complex, cross-functional initiatives that advance Axios’ mission, ensuring alignment, efficiency, and high-quality execution across teams
- This role is central to scaling Axios’ ability to deliver value to readers, journalists, and advertisers. As a Technical Program Manager, you will orchestrate multiple projects and workstreams, connecting strategy to execution
- You’ll empower teams to deliver predictably and efficiently by improving processes, removing roadblocks, and enabling leaders with the visibility they need to make informed decisions
- Manage and coordinate large programs and multi-team initiatives, ensuring alignment with quarterly OKRs and company priorities
- Define, track, and communicate program-level goals, milestones, dependencies, and risks
- Partner cross-functionally with product, engineering, design, editorial, marketing and revenue teams to ensure smooth execution and delivery
- Own and optimize internal systems (e.g., Jira, Confluence, Notion), customizing workflows, automations, and reporting to improve efficiency and visibility
- Develop scalable reporting systems and dashboards to enable data-driven decisions by leadership
- Coach teams on Agile best practices such as backlog prioritization, story refinement, and sprint hygiene to help teams ship faster and smarter
- Proactively identify blockers, resource gaps, or risks, and work to resolve them quickly
- Facilitate cross-team coordination, momentum, and accountability across deliverables
- Communicate progress, risks, and outcomes clearly to stakeholders, tailoring messaging for executives, technical, and non-technical audiences
- Apply AI tools to streamline program management tasks and share workflows with peers to increase team efficiency

Our take
Axios is a digital news site covering business, tech, politics, and media trends, with a focus on smart and efficient coverage. Much like rival comparable sites The Economist and Politico, it’s also diversified its media to include podcasts, newsletters, and a mobile app. Whilst it remains a major national and international news outlet, it’s also pursuing a new avenue to help shore up its position: local news.
Local news outlets have been in sharp decline over recent years: it’s too costly, with too little revenue. Axios’ plan is to opt instead for local newsletters. They’re highly advertiser-friendly, and the model itself is exceptionally scalable. So Axios may succeed where traditional efforts by other outlets like The Huffington Post (and countless local outfits) have failed.
Axios was previously held up as an exception to the mergers and acquisitions other news outlets were having to undergo to weather the decline of print media. However, in order to fund the expansion into local news, Axios has been acquired by the global conglomerate (and previous investor in the company) Cox Enterprises. This is good news - Cox Enterprises owns and protects local newspapers in Ohio, and looks set to be a hands-off and values-aligned new Axios owner.
