Role
Who you are
- BS and MS degree, preferably in Engineering, Math, CS or related with 5+ years work experience
- 3+ years experience in Google BigQuery, or Snowflake
- 2+ years experience in transform layer in DBT
- Expert knowledge of SQL
- Good knowledge of Python
- Dashboard and analysis building in BI tools
- Proven ability to manage complex data analysis
- Excellent communication, presentation and demonstration skills
- Recent startup experience preferred; uphold our values & mission; team player
What the job involves
- The Senior Analytics Engineer will be responsible for helping implement our analytics roadmap. Your expert SQL knowledge will be essential in creating efficient, repeatable, and easy to maintain queries and dashboards
- You will be lead developer of the transformation layer on top of the data warehouse using DBT technologies, which will drive simpler data models, and better BI tool performance
- We generate millions of data points every minute that we utilize to help our clients optimize their store operations. This is an opportunity to create a best in class data analytics solution
- Reporting to the Head of Analytics you will work closely with other Business Analysts to create efficient dashboards and query results
- Lead developer in data transformation (DBT), semantic layer, and data presentation (BI layer modeling)
- Write efficient SQL queries that help answer critical business reporting questions
- Identify data, metrics and analysis needs; including improvements in data models that power dashboards and data products
- Implement best practices in data warehouse storage (partitions, clustering, query optimizations)
- Operational ownership of analytics data pipelines and data integrity monitoring
- Work to drive new data initiatives, automation of reports, and establish best practices
- Maximize efficiency and productivity through automation and process improvements

Even in the largest retailers, inventory systems are usually manual, with staff checking inventory to get an idea of stock numbers, spoilage and other metrics. These are slow and introduce a high degree of human error, as well as being difficult to carry out around shoppers.
Focal Systems leverages a network low cost, ruggedized cameras and computer vision to scan a store's shelves automatically, alerting the backroom of the need to restock an area of the store in real time. In a time when retailers are facing staff shortages and supply chain issues, this kind of automation is in high demand, as is evidenced by Focal System's customer base which includes the likes of Walmart, ShopRite and Piggly Wiggly.
Having raised an impressive amount of funding, Focal Systems is doubling down on R&D and expanding its global sales and engineering teams. As more brick and mortar retailers begin to adopt automated solutions, Focal Systems is a strong position to continue its growth.
