- Strong technical background with experience in C# or Java, or a similar role within the software delivery lifecycle
- Experience in user-centric, multidisciplinary teams, working closely with product, UX, and commercial functions
- A strong business mindset to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Delivery-focused with experience in agile teams, able to create clear delivery plans that ensure visibility on results and impact
- An understanding of best practices around monitoring, alerting, and maintaining service health
- The ability to contribute to technical decisions and participate in discussions on system and service design
- Strong management experience overseeing the full employee lifecycle, including recruitment, conflict resolution, performance management, and promotions
What the job involves
- As an Engineering Manager, your role will be mission-critical and you will be central to shaping the core communication infrastructure of the NHS
- You'll directly enable faster, safer, and more accessible patient care, while also helping teams solve customer problems and leading the team that owns a specific set of capabilities within the Accurx product
- You’ll be helping the team to build an extensible integrations framework so that we can interoperate with dozens of existing healthcare systems, in a scalable and repeatable fashion
- You’ll have a highly skilled team and flexible team structure, working with consultants and specialists in integrations
- You’ll need to balance an evolving roadmap as we engage with new healthcare organisations with bespoke requirements, with building a best in class product
- You manage the process and the mechanisms used by the team to deliver on their commitments
- You take the lead in ensuring goals are achievable, with appropriate assessment and decomposition of work, sequencing, and capacity planning (in collaboration with the expertise in your team)
- You ensure the team manage the health of their systems confidently and responsibly
- Guide technical direction: Work with the engineers on your team to make appropriate architectural and system design decisions within your team’s product area. Champion best practices around code quality, monitoring, alerting, and service health
- Lead and grow your team: Manage and mentor your engineers, supporting recruitment, development, performance reviews, promotions, and conflict resolution. Build a culture that is collaborative, high-performing, and focused on delivering impact
- Enable cross-team success: Collaborate with other engineering managers, product managers, and stakeholders to unblock dependencies and ensure alignment across the business
- Balancing product delivery with technical health by representing the team’s decisions, trade-offs, and priorities to non-technical stakeholders
- Driving continuous improvement by using data to monitor delivery flow and proactively addressing obstacles to ensure commitments are met
- Fostering a high-performance culture by providing feedback, growth opportunities, and support to your engineers
- Your product team consistently delivers high-quality features
- Engineers feel supported, motivated, and clear on their priorities, and are performing well as individuals and a team
- Technical decisions contribute to a reliable, scalable, and secure platform used by millions of NHS staff, especially important as we scale
- Delivery plans are transparent, measurable, and aligned to organisational goals

Our take
Communication between patients and nurses/doctors has typically happened via telephone call or post. This outdated technology is costly and doesn't exactly provide a great experience. Accurx has stepped in to solve this problem with its communication and collaboration platform.
Accurx allows GPs and other healthcare providers to communicate more efficiently with their patients and with each other in order to deliver top-quality care. Its products are now used in over 95% of GP practices, a huge testament to the value of Accurx's platform.
Since raising considerable funding, Accurx has been focused on growing its team and developing its products, including batch messaging between clinics and patients, to help care sites ease the burden of long wait lists and understaffing. Alongside this, the platform recently partnered up with Tandem Health to launch an AI scribe tool for use across the NHS, so GP practices can save valuable time. Together, these developments put Accurx ins a strong position for even more growth and impact across the healthcare sector.
