Who you are
- Alation is seeking an experienced Senior Solutions Engineer located in the UK for our EMEA Region
- Ideal candidates must be self-motivated with a proven track record in software sales and knowledge of technology (analytics)
- Comfortable in the dynamic atmosphere of a technical organization with a rapidly expanding customer base
- Must possess strong presentation skills and be able to communicate professionally in written responses to emails, RFPs, and meetings
- Organized and analytical, able to eliminate sales obstacles through creative and adaptive approaches
- Must be prepared for extensive travel
What the job involves
- Alation’s Solutions Engineers are the primary technical resource for Alation’s field salesforce
- They are responsible for analyzing our prospects’ business and technical requirements and actively driving and managing the technology evaluation stage of the sales process, working in conjunction with the sales team as the key technical advisor and product advocate
- Alation’s Sales Engineers establish and maintain strong relationships with the client throughout the sales cycle
- At the start of a product pilot or purchase, the Solutions Engineer works closely with the customer to identify their technical needs and develop services and support to enable effective and productive use of the product
- Solutions Engineers require project management skills to plan and execute product installation and configuration
- They may also train end-users on the product and monitor the ongoing progress of product configuration to ensure success
- By monitoring product performance and associated support needs, Solutions Engineers identify opportunities to further develop and enhance Alation in order to meet customers’ needs more effectively
- They provide reports on product performance to the development team and advise customers on upgrades and usage for additional use cases
- Develop and deliver product demonstrations
- Evangelize the Alation Data Catalog for complex and expansion opportunities, including demonstrating its potential for solutions that cover the broader ecosystem of data management and data governance
- Identify technical risks that may derail a sale
- Provide solutions and convey value to the customers
- Attend conferences, seminars, and events related to the industry
- Respond to RFIs, RFPs, and RFQs
- Share product feedback and enhancements with the Product and Engineering Teams
- Collaborate with the team on learnings and good practices
- Lead, own, and execute pilots and workshops with prospects
- Able to travel throughout the sales territory

While companies continue to gather huge volumes of data on customer behavior, efforts in leveraging said data are often hindered by data access and interpretation, which ultimately leads to incomplete datasets.
Alation is a machine learning powered data catalog. It pulls together all a company’s key data from popular sources like Oracle, Spark and Tableau, and presents it on its platform. This means that users can search for multiple strands of data on just one API. Its services include data governance, digital transformation, and data discovery.
With both the data catalog and data analytics market growing rapidly at a 25% annual growth rate, Alation finds itself in a very strong position having shown triple digit growth for four years running. The platform is used for diverse purposes by Pfizer, FinnAir, Pepsico, Salesforce, American Express and BMW.
It’s this range of applicability, from weather-induced flight delay prediction to rare disease identification, that has led to investments resulting in a valuation of $1.7B. Though it's not the only company of its ilk on the market, with the likes of Informatica, Aginity and Alteryx all competing, Alation’s rapid year-on-year growth, solid investment from the likes of Japanese data communications leader NTT DOCOMO and an elite customer base bodes well for the company's future.
