What the job involves
- User Data Platform is a new team building the next generation of systems that will serve our users' needs to store custom data with Stripe objects
- This can be in terms of files or references in Stripe to external-system data, or to mark up Stripe data with additional fields for reporting purposes
- We aim to greatly reduce risk, error rates and operating expenses associated with existing solutions while also addressing a growing set of user requirements
- The team is uniquely positioned to work on multiple product offerings from the early stages of user research and product shaping while also addressing significant existing scale and interesting technical challenges
- The team’s projects cut across many stakeholders and business lines and will help power the future direction of storing custom data with Stripe objects
- Solve product problems and build delightful API and developer experiences for our users
- Turn ambiguous problems that our users are facing into concrete products, from proposal, to kick-off, to building, and launch
- Build software services and platforms that will impact every Stripe user, whether they’re an end user, developer, or partner
- Ensure our platforms are reliable, scalable, secure and extensible
- Shape future proof interfaces that are easy to build against
- Help drive sound technical decision making and lead technical conversations with other teams across Stripe
- Debug production issues across services and levels of the stack
Our take
Stripe, nowadays a FinTech giant, spent the first few years since its founding building up its payments business, which primarily consisted of providing an API to eCommerce businesses so that they could easily integrate a payment option in their apps or websites, where before there was none.
More recently, Stripe has started to accelerate its growth with a significantly larger range of financial services including cash advances and credit cards. They also plan to build incorporation services, fraud protection, and more, diversifying its revenue away from payments and differentiating itself from its competitors.
To further expand its position, the company is extending its services to countries with vast customer potential, including Brazil, Japan and India. It is also partnering with OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT - a win-win collaboration that is monetising OpenAI’s flagship products and at the same time enhancing Stripe with GPT-4, as it moves forward with intentions to "build the payments foundation for tomorrow's AI economy."
