Who you are
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, related field, or comparable work experience
- 2+ years of professional engineering experience
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with peers and partners
- Experience building highly scalable, reliable, available, and performant systems
- Experience driving all phases of the development lifecycle: planning, execution, measuring success, and post-launch maintenance
- Intermediate understanding of modern applications architecture, API design patterns, data modeling, security, performance, and scaling
- Experience within healthcare and/or the mental health industry
Desirable
- Experience at growth-stage companies, migrating legacy systems to microservices
- Demonstrable experience building sources of truth systems, leveraging events and workflows, that integrate with 3rd parties
- Experience with NodeJS, Typescript, Kafka, AWS, or equivalent
- Experience with HIPAA, FHIR/HL7, SOC2, or HITRUST compliance
What the job involves
- We are looking for a Software Engineer II to join our Patient Services team, the backbone of the Patient platform, that powers user experiences across multiple verticals
- In this role, you will design and build scalable, reliable backend systems that are critical to the day-to-day operations at Rula
- You will maintain the seamless functionality of our patient data platform and 3rd party integrations for our internal and external stakeholders
- As a key contributor, you’ll identify and solve complex technical challenges, collaborate across teams, and drive innovation that supports our mission to deliver impactful and cohesive solutions
Our take
More than half of adults in the US will be diagnosed with a mental illness during their lifetime, and yet inaccessibility of treatment remains a huge problem. That’s what Rula aims to solve, with its platform that matches users to therapists that are covered by their insurance.
The company, formerly known as Path, is partnered with a number of major health insurers, including UnitedHealthcare and Anthem, making it an accessible service for millions of Americans. It allows users to browse therapists almost instantly, with just a short questionnaire to fill in before their matches are shown.
Though the market for tech services offering mental health provision is an overstuffed one, containing giants like BetterHelp as well as newer competitors, Rula's partnerships with insurers do mark it out against the crowd. The business has been steadily growing, and significantly bolstered its executive team in 2023. Its recent rebrand was designed to emphasize its vision to improve not only access to mental health care, but also clinical outcomes.
