Who you are

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Robotics, Computer Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
5+ years experience in systems engineering, robotics integration, or complex electromechanical products
Hands-on experience with tactile sensing, force/torque sensors, or haptics-related instrumentation
Strong debugging skills using lab equipment (oscilloscope, logic analyzer, DAQ) and software tools
Experience writing system requirements, interface control documents, and V&V plans
Proficiency with Linux and scripting (Python/Bash) for automation and test tooling
Understanding of real-time/embedded systems and communication protocols (CAN, SPI, I2C, Ethernet)
Familiarity with robotics frameworks and middleware (e.g., ROS/ROS2) and sensor fusion concepts
Strong cross-functional communication and ability to work in fast-paced prototype environments

What the job involves

System Engineer role at 1X Technologies focused on designing, integrating, and maintaining complex robotic/automation systems with an emphasis on tactile sensing and perception. The engineer will collaborate across hardware, embedded, controls, and software teams to deliver reliable end-to-end system performance from prototype to production
Define system architecture, interfaces, and requirements across mechanical, electrical, embedded, and software subsystems
Integrate tactile sensors and related perception pipelines into robotic platforms and validate performance
Develop test plans, acceptance criteria, and verification/validation (V&V) strategies for system-level readiness
Own system bring-up, debugging, and root-cause analysis across hardware/firmware/software boundaries
Collaborate with controls and SW/AI teams to tune system behavior and improve robustness
Create and maintain system documentation: ICDs, requirements, schematics references, test reports, and release notes
Partner with product and program teams to scope milestones, estimate effort, and manage technical risks

Our take

The field of robotics has advanced massively in the last few years, to the point where androids no longer belong to the realm of science fiction. 1X, formerly known as Halodi Robotics, is developing androids capable of human-like movement and behaviour, to employ in workplaces and homes across the globe.

1X's androids are strong enough to move shipments but gentle enough to handle fragile items, making them ideal for work in retail storerooms or distribution centers. In addition, they are able to open doors and take elevators, meaning it is simple to fit them into workplaces without making large adjustments.

Its home models have perhaps had the most attention, as the media and public are intrigued by the idea of an "intelligent android assistant" for the home. Although the adoption of working androids is still in its early stages, 1X has certainly made a splash in the space and may well be one to watch as it helps to shape the future of robotics.
