Who you are

  • This role requires strong design expertise and deep understanding of design systems, brand design, and UI/UX
  • 10+ years experience overall within a creative agency or in-house at a leading brand
  • A diverse portfolio of interactive and innovative communications work
  • A passion for the craft of their discipline, and for being hands-on with teams and the work
  • Strong understanding of interactive and digital design including collaboration with engineers to see design through to build

What the job involves

  • Marcom is a multi-disciplinary creative team within Airbnb’s Marketing group, spanning visual design, brand identity, copywriting, art direction, motion and interactive
  • In partnership with Advertising and Product Design, we are stewards of the brand whose objective is to help current and future guests and Hosts understand what Airbnb offers, and why it’s meaningful in their lives
  • We are looking for a Creative Lead who can ensure creative excellence on our Interactive team
  • Reporting to the Group Creative Director, Interactive and working in partnership with product directors, product marketing leads, and business stakeholders, they are responsible for developing creative solutions that define and enhance creative ideas from concept through execution
  • You'll be entrusted with the Airbnb brand and expected to push forward the way it’s expressed through brand campaigns, in-product merchandising, product experiences, and other communications
  • You will be able to translate business and marketing purposes into big ideas that can be executed brilliantly across various initiatives and mediums
  • Hands-on execution of world-class communications—from strategy and concept to point and pixel perfect artwork
  • Reviewing, providing constructive feedback to peers and more junior team members across multiple disciplines: visual design, copywriting, art direction, motion graphics and interactive
  • Champion the craft of design and visual storytelling, and help elevate them throughout the department’s output
  • Partner with horizontal designers and Campaign Creative to ensure the brand’s creative direction and voice is consistent across digital outputs
  • Collaborate with various departments, producers, program managers, photographers and illustrators and engineering to achieve the finished product on time and on budget
  • Support external creative and production agencies to execute work that is of the highest quality and consistency
  • Champion Airbnb’s mission of connection and belonging at every step. Be a guardian for Airbnb’s values of inclusivity, diversity, and acceptance

Our take

When Airbnb was originally founded, the product helped customers book air mattresses on people's apartment floors. Since then, Airbnb has had over a billion customers hosted through its platform. With more than 4 million registered hosts worldwide, it has grown into a major player in the hospitality sector.

Airbnb has been successful in disrupting the traditional holiday lettings sector. Before it existed accommodation was limited to hotels and bed and breakfasts, but Airbnb has mainstreamed the idea of renting out spare rooms or even entire homes. It has created a new sector of hosts purchasing properties to rent out on the platform and provides a level of flexibility and a range of offerings not previously possible for travelers.

Perhaps a victim of its own success, by 2022 supply of Airbnb-listed properties began to outstrip demand in some markets, as hosts overestimated the appetite for domestic travel. However, the company is still posting strong financials and has unveiled new tools to support its hosts in a tougher rental market. With a healthy bottom line and a huge user base, Airbnb is very likely to overcome the current market turbulence and continue its growth.
