Who you are
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or taxation
- 4+ years of relevant accounting or tax experience
- CPA license required
- Big Four accounting experience preferred
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Strong knowledge of U.S. income tax. Experience with gross receipts taxes, franchise taxes, or international tax reporting is a plus
- Experience with general ledger systems such as Microsoft AX, NetSuite, SAP by Design, QuickBooks, billing systems, or internal tax engines
- Superior organization, prioritization, and planning skills
- Track record of taking initiative to drive individual and team results
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a collaborative mindset
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- Assertive, creative, and adaptable to changing conditions
What the job involves
- The Senior Tax Analyst supports the company’s U.S. Federal and state income tax compliance
- Responsibilities include collecting and reviewing data for tax returns, U.S. international reporting, and quarterly income tax provisions
- In addition, the role involves assisting with federal and state tax audits, inquiries, and notices, and may include some indirect tax work
- This position reports to the Senior Tax Manager and is based in Chicago, Illinois, with one in-office day required each week
- The Tax team at Sinch is collaborative, results-oriented, and committed to supporting one another to achieve individual and group success
- Tax Compliance & Reporting: Gather and review financial data for Federal and state income tax returns, including US international reporting. Review returns prepared by third-party advisors
- Tax Provision & Accounting: Review quarterly income tax provisions prepared under IAS 12 (IFRS equivalent to ASC 740)
- Tax Reserve Calculations: Prepare quarterly income tax reserve calculations
- Account Reconciliations: Prepare quarterly reconciliations/proof for income tax liability and receivable accounts
- Audit & Controversary Assistance: Gather data and prepare detailed documentation (e.g., work papers, memos) to support and defend the company's tax positions and computations
- Notice Resolution: Prepare responses and documentation for tax notices and inquiries from domestic and international tax authorities
- Monitor changes in U.S. tax legislation. Quantify and model the impact of tax planning strategies and legislative and regulatory developments
- Demonstrate ability to research tax issues, and be proficient in interpreting and applying tax laws, regulations and cases to specific transactions and factual situations
- Process Optimization: Proactively contributes to initiatives that streamline tax processes and strengthen controls. Help drive efficiency gains by using automation tools and standardizing documentation

Our take
Over the course of well over a decade, Sinch has grown into an international service helping enterprise companies communicate with their customers over text, in-app video/voice messages, and other mobile channels. Used by Google, Tinder, Uber, and PayPal, among other marquee enterprise companies, most customers will have crossed paths with Sinch.
The company’s rise is due in part to an increased marketing focus on cultivating a highly personalised relationship between customer and brand. In part, too, it’s down to the surge in custom Sinch saw over recent years when more familiar channels of customer/brand communication went down. That seems to have settled now, but personalised messages, over text specifically, continue to play well among younger consumers.
It's going to prove a tough market to navigate going forward, though. Equally well-established competitors like Twilio, 8x8, and Link Mobility Group all have similar offerings. Sinch's foray into conversational AI will help them keep pace, as will their steady march of acquisitions, fundraising to fuel scaling efforts and partnerships with the likes of Salesforce.
