Who you are

Strong Linux or Unix background, preferably in a hyperscale, or telco environment
An excellent ability to demo VCL code in front of prospective customers
A superb communication skill set is desired; must be able to convey Varnish’s technical capabilities (written/spoken) to both business and technical decision-makers
Strong understanding of web performance, web caching, scalability, A/B testing, and implementation constraints

What the job involves

Become a Varnish Software and VCL Solutions expert
In collaboration with our sales and technical teams, develop custom VCL configurations and integrations for our customers and prospects
Travel frequently to meet and work with customers, some of which are the biggest brands within their markets
Work directly with our R&D and CTO Office teams to come up with technical solutions to meet new trends encountered in the field
Have a significant impact on technical and architectural decisions for our prospects and customers

Our take

Varnish is a free, open-source HTTP accelerator helping web companies deliver high speed services whilst avoiding downtime and poor performance. Whilst Varnish has been in the game for a while now, the company has recently seen a lucrative new avenue open up thanks to the ballooning growth of the video-on-demand market.

Streaming giants like Netflix are searching with increasing urgency for ways to balance high content demand (in increasingly high definition, too) with lower energy consumption and costs. This problem is compounded when live streaming is thrown into the mix. Varnish Software, however, is making impressive strides in improving the throughput levels necessary to give streaming services an operational edge. With video content now constituting a large fraction of internet traffic, this puts Varnish in a strong market position.

Among its global customer base, Varnish also offers products like protection against DDoS attacks, and web services for 5G. All told, this means Varnish is offering a spread of products that are increasingly critical to the success of web content, and its G2 ‘Best Web Acceleration Software’ win stands as evidence of its continued utility in the space.
