Role
Who you are
- You will have familiarity with U.S. options market structure, programming & automation, data analysis, and the support of multifaceted technology systems
- You will demonstrate the composure and aptitude required to work effectively in a dynamic, high-pressure trading environment
- This position is best suited for a highly collaborative, team-oriented individual who is passionate about working with technology, trading systems, and data

- 2+ years of operational experience on an options trading / operations desk
- Familiarity with electronic trading, trading systems, and options market structure a plus
- Interested in picking up Python programming and automation skills
- Ability to acquire applicable certifications within 90 days of hiring
Desirable
- Python programming experience – You’ve thrown some scripts together to automate things you don’t need to spend your time on. Always looking to improve your code and use functions where possible. You get annoyed at manual processes that can be easily automated and do what you can to prevent yourself from being a human keyboard
- Data analysis experience – spent time with a data science module like Pandas for Python or a query language like kdb+/q or SQL (we love jupyter notebooks!). You enjoy spending time with large datasets and using your skills to create interesting views
- Familiarity with a versioning system like Git
- Familiarity with an automation scheduling tool like Rundeck
- Knowledge of micro-market structure, order types, and order book behavior
What the job involves
- IEX is looking for a driven, motivated early-career candidate to join our Market Operations desk
- You’ll work directly with IEX Member firms and other industry participants to expand access and understanding of the IEX market as well as cross functionally with IEX’s product, technology, and regulatory teams
- Execute and maintain daily operational procedures
- Develop expertise with IEX systems, market functionality, order types and external interfaces
- Design, build, and maintain automation scripts owned by the Market Operations team
- Perform data analysis to support troubleshooting client issues, improving operational efficiency, and managing risk
- Participation in general IEX product development and business development initiatives
- Collaborate with internal teams at IEX – including Technology Operations, Product Management, Business Development, Business Analytics, Quality Assurance, Compliance, and Regulation
- Participation in industry tests
Our take
Innovations in fintech infrastructure have dramatically changed how people invest, but despite such developments, investors still face limitations when trading assets. Exchanges often list out-of-date pricing information which limits investors' abilities to make strategic investment decisions, a problem that is heightened through knock-on effects from other unstable stock prices.
IEX provides a registered US stock exchange for investors and broker-dealers, focussing on providing a more stable trade execution experience than existing exchanges. The company achieves this through its "Speed Bump" strategy that delays trades to gather up-to-date pricing information whilst assessing them for price stability, ensuring that trades are not executed based on stale data, and helping to notify other orders to react to other stock price stability levels.
Whilst the company must share the stock exchange sector with many competitors, IEX show great promise through its focus on maintaining pricing accuracy and stability. The company also stands out by providing a cloud platform for the selling, sharing, and use of financial data, in addition to an investment lifecycle advice tool for institutional investors.
