Who you are

Proficiency in modern Python
3+ years of work experience designing, implementing, and/or integrating web APIs (REST, GraphQL, RPC)

Desirable

Prior work experience at a high-growth tech startup or electronic trading firm
Experience with financial data (market data feeds, time series, security references, machine-readable news) or analytics
Experience working within a Linux environment
Exposure to lower-level languages, such as C, C++, or Rust
Experience with containerized application deployment (Docker, Docker Swarm, Kubernetes)
Experience with release engineering, CI/CD, and zero-downtime deployment practices (GitLab CI, TeamCity, Spinnaker)
Experience with database design and administration (MySQL, Redis, ClickHouse)
Experience with web frameworks (Django, Flask, FastAPI, Starlette)
Exposure to front-end web application development (TypeScript, HTML, CSS, React)
Experience with single-page applications and modern web app architectures
Degree in computer science, applied mathematics, or a related field

What the job involves

We're looking for a software engineer to join our team. This is a remote role that primarily involves backend development and product engineering, with optional frontend responsibilities
Working with engineers and product team to develop web backend and APIs for our core products
Working with engineers and product team to ideate, design, and implement product features and improvements
Maintaining existing web and data applications
Improving performance and developer experience of our web APIs
Improving engineering workflows, e.g., testing, release, deployment, QA, and documentation

Our take

Despite the exponential growth of data within fintech, the majority of financial data providers continue to provide inconvenient services, with high licensing fees, slow infrastructure, and difficult onboarding processes. Furthermore, taking a new dataset to production requires high cost commitment and a large lead time, which can be difficult to manage.

Databento aims to democratise the financial industry and transform the way businesses use data platforms. They set themselves apart by eliminating all expensive up-front costs so that businesses only pay for market data as and when they use it. In doing so, they fit any company's budget and needs, no matter the size of the business.

2024's Series A funding round is being used by Databento to fuel its product enhancements such as a data history extension and a new flexible pricing plan. It is also putting the foundations in place to expand its European marketplace share.
