Who you are
- Have experience building iOS applications in a production environment using Swift
- Stay up to date and experiment with the latest iOS technologies
- Have a product-focused mindset. Our team works together to deliver projects that use technology to solve real business problems
- Enjoy working on mobile apps at all levels – from networking up to user interfaces and everything in between
- Have experience building maintainable and testable code bases, including API design and unit testing techniques
- Can collaborate with iOS, Android, and Server engineers in order to ship features
What the job involves
- This role is on our "Groups, Creators, and Social" team at Strava, a cross-functional group dedicated to enhancing how athletes connect and interact on our platform
- The team collaborates with engineers from all of Strava’s technical areas—iOS, Android, Web, and Server—as well as with diverse partners to develop engaging, athlete-facing features
- We are pivotal in creating and managing major tools and services such as messaging, posts, video, photos, and clubs that define the social fabric of Strava
- Additionally, we play a crucial role in advancing our technical vision and transitioning to cutting-edge technologies, ensuring a world-class experience for our community of athletes
- Engage in pioneering projects that influence how athletes communicate and share experiences, playing a key role in developing core functionalities that are central to the user experience
- Participate in the evolution of Strava’s technology landscape, contributing to the adoption of advanced technologies and practices
- Take on responsibilities that expand your leadership capabilities and technical expertise within a forward-thinking team
- Directly impact the experience of tens of millions of athletes
- You will be successful here by:
- Demonstrating empathy for athletes and their experience while using Strava
- Taking ownership of your work, and partnering with cross-functional peers to ensure services are properly scoped and implemented
- Building well-documented and easy-to-use systems that are quickly and widely adopted across our engineering organization
- Contributing to an inclusive and collaborative team culture
- Building beautiful, smooth, delightful mobile experiences
- Mentoring other engineers and providing technical leadership to the team through forums like tech talks
- Using your in-depth knowledge of all things iOS to help drive technical conversations with peers from different backgrounds, across different teams

Our take
Strava has created an online network where runners, swimmers and cyclists can record fitness activities, and compare and compete with their community. It offers both a free and premium subscription service with added features. The company also partners with local councils and urban planners who purchase valuable journey data from Strava which can be used to map out cities and develop safer cycle paths.
The platform helps members discover and plan workouts, as well as offering a leaderboard which is updated using GPS as users compete for the top spot on particular fitness segments.
With over 125 million athletes and growing, Strava released several new product rollouts in 2024, including an AI-enabled leaderboard. A partnership with the wearable fitness tracker Oura will mean Strava software is available on wearables, taking the company into fresh competition with the likes of Peloton and Apple. In 2025, the company secured new funding in a round led by Sequoia Capital, growing its value to $2.2 billion.
