Who you are

At least 4 years of professional experience in software engineering building and operating scalable services and applications that support millions of users
You are comfortable moving between languages such as Python, JavaScript, Rust and you are willing to learn as needed. Kotlin and Swift are nice to haves
You have experience with API design and development and have supported integrations with your services into desktop and/or mobile platforms
You have worked with a distributed team and you can demonstrate good asynchronous written and verbal communication skills
You know how to approach an existing codebase and improve its architecture through small, planned interventions

What the job involves

Design and build robust, scalable systems that power experiences and support feature delivery in Mozilla products such as Firefox and other web applications
Help reimagine how we surface and personalize content while respecting our customer's privacy
Participate in mentoring and knowledge sharing through documentation, code review, and pair programming
Be accountable for the operation of your services with the potential for on-call rotations
Help improve the services engineering culture at Mozilla through collaborative projects across the organization

Our take

Mozilla creates and manages a range of free-to-use software products. Their most well-known product is Firefox, the fourth most popular internet browser in the world. Mozilla is a not-for-profit with a focus on promoting online privacy. The company has a published manifesto outlining its commitment to keeping a balance between commercial profit and public benefit.

The companies other products include Bugzilla, a bug management platform, and Pocket, an award-winning digital content filing service. In direct odds with Google, Mozilla has recently launched a new product Mozilla VPN. The VPN or virtual private network enables users to browse the internet without being tracked. Companies such as Google rely on tracking user behavior online to target them with advertising.

Mozilla was also instrumental in creating the programming language Rust, which is admired for its brevity. Rust uses roughly half the amount of code as C++ to produce the same results.
