Role
Who you are
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- 6 years of DevOps and cloud experience
- Experience with any flavor of Linux
- Experiences with containers and container orchestration
- Experience in setting up and maintaining continuous integration and continuous deployment pipelines with tools such as GitHub Actions
- Experience setting up and administrating monitoring tools like with Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, etc
- Production experience building and maintaining cloud infrastructure
- Strong understanding of Kubernetes, specifically AKS and Helm
- Strong understanding of terraform use cases and best practices
- Experience setting up production grade networking with hybrid clouds
- Intimate knowledge of certain protocols such as TCP, HTTP(S), etc
- Experience with any scripting language (Bash, Python, etc)
- Azure, AWS or GCP cloud certification
- Security and compliance understanding in a DevOps context
Desirable
- Experience in GovCloud environments (Bonus for Azure)
- Experience in the Space, Defense, or similar industry
- Experience going through DoD compliance certifications like CMMC or FedRamp
- Understands the balance and tension between moving quickly at a startup and building a mature flight environment
What the job involves
- Software is the central nervous system for True Anomaly’s engineering and product thesis
- Software bridges the gap between military objectives, theoretical astrodynamics and the human and autonomous control of spacecraft and ground systems in time and space
- True Anomaly is seeking a highly experienced DevOps Engineer to contribute to the continuing evolution of our complex spacecraft modeling and simulation software
- You do not need to have experience building space ground systems or experience in aerospace
- You’ll have ownership of challenging, greenfield problems and a chance to fundamentally impact the outcome of future conflict (and the future of the company), all while enjoying world-class benefits including platinum healthcare, flexible work hours/location, highly competitive compensation and a generous stock options package
- Establish and sustain continuous integration and deployment processes utilizing CI/CD tools to streamline and mature development workflows
- Oversee the deployment, scaling and management of applications using Kubernetes ensuring optimal architecture and functionality while also keeping cost as a factor
- Design and manage cloud-based solutions, primarily on Azure, while also being adept with other cloud platforms while upholding security standards and maturing cloud infrastructure
- Utilize Terraform for the provisioning and management of cloud resources through usage of modules and state management
- Work closely with security teams to fortify the security of our infrastructure and applying security principles that adhere to compliance standards. We embrace being proactive rather than being reactive
- Implement and oversee monitoring and logging solutions
- Assist software development teams by troubleshooting, optimizing performance and applying software deployment best practices ensuring mission success
- Deploy our application into challenging environments while working with the customer to ensure a smooth deployment representing True Anomaly with confidence
- Responsible for actively engaging in problem-solving, with a focus on practical involvement at both the design and debugging stages
- Enhancing and building Docker images to support a production flight environment securely
- Experimenting with the latest development tools to see if they meet the needs of our team
Our take
True Anomaly is a space tech startup composed of former military operators and engineers. The Colorado-based company is focused on building spacecraft and software solutions designed to secure U.S. commercial and military interests in space. It has already developed a fully-integrated platform with seamless satellite, navigation, and data-capture technologies that provide security and training for the quickly evolving space market.
Founded in 2022, True Anomaly has already designed its first spacecraft, the Jackal Autonomous Orbital Vehicle, which can be used to train operators on the ground or as intelligence-gathering tools against adversarial spacecraft. Alongside this, the startup has built a 35,000-square-foot facility in Denver to manufacture the Jackals and hired a team of close to 60 people.
With impressive capital gained at the end of 2023, the company validated the Jackal's technical and operational capabilities and made the necessary investments to scale production. Despite this healthy injection of funding, it still had to streamline staff in spring 2024, but is looking leaner and more agile for it, planning to partner with Firefly Aerospace to launch The Jackal in 2025.
