Role
Who you are
- We are looking for an experienced, articulate, and energetic education technologist to become a K12 Solutions Engineer (SE)
- Edu experience, preferably in leadership at a school, district or state level. Or preferably in a technical sales capacity at an EdTech company
- A strong understanding of instructional best practice and of digital tools that support best practice. Prior LMS or AMS admin experience preferred
- Technical understanding of education technology, web technology, mobile technology, systems integration, SaaS, student information systems, APIs, etc
- Articulate and dynamic presentation skills with the ability to present to a wide range of stakeholders, both virtually and face to face in casual and high stakes scenarios
- Organized and analytical, able to eliminate sales obstacles through creative and adaptive approaches
- Self-motivated, self-reliant, collaborative, and communicative
- Thrive in a fast paced environment
- Must be a team player
- Must be prepared for extensive travel (up to 60% at peak periods)
What the job involves
- Solutions Engineers provide support to sales that leads to closing new deals
- They work directly with Regional Sales Directors in the field to explain how our solutions support best practices in teaching and learning
- Solutions Engineers are the primary knowledge resource for all things technology and education as they relate to Canvas, Mastery Connect, Canvas Credentials, Impact and more
- SEs are responsible for actively driving and managing the technology evaluation stage of the sales process
- K12 SEs are the key instructional and technical advisors and product advocates, thoughtfully considering all alternatives to arrive at best recommendations
- Position the Instructure Learning Platform as a product (and as a partner) to all stakeholders, from shallow to deep, from storytelling to technical deep-dives
- Develop and deliver tailored product demonstrations that are simple but engaging
- This is a work from home/remote position. However, candidates must be willing to travel up to 60%
- Effectively communicate complex education and technology concepts and practices to a variety of stakeholders – e.g. telling a compelling story to educators and administrators, as well as leading credible, in-depth technical discussions with information technology experts
- Act as trusted strategic and technical advisor with our prospective customers, thoughtfully considering customer vision and needs to design the best solution
- Respond to functional and technical elements of RFIs/RFPs
- Coach and mentor fellow team members on all things edu, both in the field and via planned professional development opportunities
- Track progress on projects through consistent record-keeping and knowledge-sharing

Instructure is an education technology company, creator of the Canvas Learning Management Platform that allows schools to build the digital learning environment that meets the unique challenges faced by their institution. The platform simplifies teaching, elevates learning, and eliminates the headaches of supporting and growing traditional learning technologies.
The Canvas platform has grown to become a key part of a large number of educational institutions, from pre-school to higher education and beyond. Much of Instructure's workforce is dedicated to R&D, which is unusual for a company of their size, and shows their focus on innovating.
Founded back in 2008, the company has claimed numerous successes, including going international and hitting the $1 billion market cap. It has made a number of acquisitions, most recently of Concentric Sky and LearnPlatform. The former saw Instructure incorporate Sky's "Badgr" into its ecosystem as "Canvas Badges", whereas the latter adds evidence-based insights to the platform - both cementing its commitment to building the education industry's most integrated teaching and learning platform to support lifelong learning.
Instructure was itself acquired in 2024 by KKR, which will support a broad-based equity ownership program for Instructure employees. This strategy is based on a strategy of employee ownership as a cause of stronger companies. The move is a promising one considering KKRs track record of acquired companies, but time will tell how Intructure fares.
