To drive breakthroughs in computing to push humanity forward.
Big tech’s dominance over the internet has led to something of a grass-roots revolution in the form of Web 3.0, a new iteration of the internet focusing on decentralised, open-source technology that helps sidestep censorship and confer real ownership on its participants. Protocol Labs is a well-established player in this field. It’s a product development lab building protocols and tools to help develop and democratize the future of computing.
Protocol Labs’ credentials are impressive. Highlights from its project roster include p2p hypermedia protocol InterPlanetary File-System (IPFS), a faster and more robust HTTP alternative which has helped tackle internet censorship; the Filecoin cryptocurrency, which has been one of the first coins to see substantial bounce-back after the Luna crash; and libp2p, a modular networking stack that caters to the increasing number of p2p network developers.
With its fingers deep in many major Web 3.0 pies, and a strong track record and talent roster, Protocol Labs has established itself as an industry-shaping player. Although the so-called "crypto winter", that has done its share of damage among many industry players, has unfortunately forced the company into a round of layoffs, it remains positive that it can weather the winter and hold its own within the still rapidly-evolving ecosystem of Web 3.0 startups, as well as compete against future-focused industry incumbents.
