Role
Who you are
- A university degree in a relevant field of study (Computer Science, Engineering, etc.) or a comparable practical experience
- 3+ years of software development experience with Java (and optionally partially in JavaScript, Kotlin or Python)
- Backend experience with Spring Boot
- Frontend experience in technologies like React, NextJS, Jest, Webpack, Material UI, Apollo
- Practical experience in AWS or another cloud provider
- A passion for well architected, testable and documented code and an agile mindset
- Strong analytical thinking, both in the technical and in the product domain
- Experience in complex software projects with end-to-end ownership building microservices or serverless solutions
- Good communication skills that are clear, open and concise, professional proficiency in English
- Previous experience with security topics and/or DevOps experience is a big advantage
- Background in the financial industry and financial software product development is an advantage
What the job involves
- You are part of the Core Tribe, whose mission is to empower Scalable Engineers to build disruptive financial products
- You contribute to the evolution of platforms we use like Backstage, Load-test platform
- You contribute to build cross cutting solutions for the Scalable platform e.g Datadog log forwarder
- You create, maintain and improve microservices as well as serverless code using Kotlin and JavaScript, but also contribute to Python and Java projects
- You work with cutting edge technologies and are part of modern software development practices (e.g. agile and self-managed teams, continuous integration and deployment, test automation, cloud-based infrastructure and tooling)
- You write clean, testable, maintainable and well-documented code and treat security as a first class citizen
- You are part of one of our highly motivated teams of software engineers and academics implementing change in the financial industry
- You improve engineering excellence in the team
Our take
Interest around investing in digital assets is increasing steadily due to innovations in fintech smartphone applications and the popularity of blockchain finance such as cryptocurrency. While stocks and cryptocurrency have a lot to do with this increase in popularity, it has also led to new investors learning about ETFs and index funds, meaning more people are looking for easier ways to invest.
Scalable Capital provides a free smartphone application for the investing and trading of stocks, cryptocurrencies, commission-free ETFs, and index funds, with subscription fees providing commission-free stock trading. The application also features a machine learning-driven robotrading service called Smart Predict to aid in improving users' limit and stop orders.
Whilst several other European investment platforms focus on commission-free trading, Scalable Capital has taken a fresh perspective by focusing on providing commission-free ETF investment. By doing this, the company encourages smart long-term ETF investments over riskier day-trading, tapping into a more mature market than applications focused on stocks. With substantial growth reported in 2025, Scalable Capital is carving out its market share.
