Role
Who you are
- Successful completion of commercial training, preferably with further training as a certified public accountant or a comparable business degree
- 3+ years of progressive professional experience in financial accounting – ideally in a trading organization
- Solid knowledge of accounting in accordance with the German Commercial Code (HGB)
- Confident knowledge of MS Office/ Google Sheets, DATEV, UnternehmenOnline and common invoicing software
- High affinity for numbers and technology as well as analytical thinking skills
- Excellent command of German (both written and spoken) and have a good command of English
- Strong sense of responsibility and reliability
- Independent, structured and careful way of working
- Ability to work in a team and strong communication skills
- Discretion and confidentiality when dealing with sensitive financial data
What the job involves
- As an Accounting & Payments Specialist, you will join the team full-time or part-time and play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our financial processes and records together with the CFO and Trading Operations team
- Ensure that all legal and internal accounting and invoicing policies are adhered to
- Take ownership of bookkeeping and accounting in accordance with the German Commercial Code (HGB)
- Create and book invoices, reconcile payments and oversee factoring payments
- Support trading operations in overdue receivables management
- Manage and organize financial data within our ERP systems and DATEV
- Coordinate monthly and annual closing activities
- Participate in projects related to working capital optimization
- Continuously develop and improve existing processes in financial accounting
- Cooperate with auditors and tax consultants
- Carry out general financial and administrative tasks

By connecting producers to buyers at regular auctions, both parties are able to cut down on negotiation time and administration while helping address industry-wide issues such as overproduction, excess capacity and slow-moving inventory.
The company's co-founders have previous industry experience at global leader Thyssenkrupp, where they met and conceptualized the idea for Vanilla Steel. As Europe’s only current independent digital platform solely for steel, the company has already carved out a solid market niche and built a client base sapnning more than 50 countries.
Vanilla Steel has been backed by June Fund as well as Seedcamp and Mustard Seed Maz. It is looking to connect with even more suppliers, and to bring additional digital solutions to a traditionally analogue industry.
