Role
Who you are
- We are looking for a collaborative and detail-oriented candidate interested in the intersection of product and retail/fashion to join our team as a Senior Accountant
- The ideal candidate has 3-5 years of experience at a large accounting firm and / or in a similar role at a high-growth startup
- You bring 3-5 years of relevant experience, ideally from a large accounting firm or a startup
- Experience with NetSuite is a major plus
- A bachelor's degree in accounting is essential
- Your written and verbal communication skills are second to none
- Your keen eye for detail and knack for numbers make you an analytical genius
- A self-starter, you excel at multitasking, prioritizing, and executing tasks without micro-management, all while proactively seeking assistance when needed
- You are comfortable with a 5-day in-office workweek (this role will originally be based in Brooklyn, but the office will be moving to Manhattan later this year.)
What the job involves
- As a Senior Accountant, you will be responsible for helping us make critical financial decisions by collecting, tracking, and recording the company's financial results
- This person will serve as a bridge between finance and departmental functions at Ghost. Ghost is headquartered in Los Angeles, California, with a second office located in New York, where this position is located
- Ensuring 100% accuracy of accounting and financial data by collaborating with sales, merchandising, and product teams
- Taking the reins of the full accounts payable cycle, managing new vendors, invoices, and payables with precision
- Overseeing accounts receivable and managing collections from buyers
- Supporting month, quarter, and year-end closes by preparing journal entries and account reconciliations, ensuring compliance with US GAAP
- Preparing schedules and maintaining reconciliation for Prepaids, Accrued Expenses, Fixed Assets, and other balance sheet accounts
- Collaborating with merchandise and sales teams to ensure accurate reporting of managed and consignment inventory, along with all transaction data
- Acting as the finance team's liaison in the New York office, managing expenses, keeping leadership informed, and fostering a healthy spend culture for future endeavors
- Establishing and managing vendor and buyer compliance processes
- Responding to information requests and providing support during audits
- Preparing special financial reports, showcasing your keen analysis of account information and trends
Our take
Excess inventory is one of the biggest pain points for modern retailers. Ghost solves this problem by making it easier for retailers to buy and sell excess inventory discreetly and sustainably.
With retailers wasting around $500 billion a year on excess inventory, demand for solutions like Ghost's is sky-high. The company has also made good on this demand, emerging from stealth mode in 2022 and about $38 million in funding to date. Ghost, which functions in much the same way as eBay, has benefited hugely from its founder's prior experience in the apparel industry.
Ghost's clear focus on sustainability and discretion has broad market appeal, especially for large-scale retailers looking to reduce waste and improve their public image. If Ghost can continue to attract such clients, it could scale at an impressive pace in the coming years.
