Recharge's mission is to make online recharge of branded payments possible wherever it's needed in the world.
Branded payments come in the form of gift cards, mobile call credit, vouchers, or prepaid payment cards, and have been in operation for decades - but they’re experiencing something of a boom these days. They offer a great budget management strategy, as well as an anonymous way of making purchases online, and are an increasingly popular gift as smartphone penetration deepens and alternative payment methods become more popular. Recharge is a branded payments scaleup that’s taking advantage of this increased interest.
Recharge focus predominantly on partnerships with leading entertainment and telecom giants like Playstation, Netflix, Apple, and Orange, which is seeing them secure a substantial user base in their European market. They are not the only player here, however - North American behemoth Blackhawk Networks enjoys strong international reach, and with a number of major acquisitions under their belt will be sure to give Recharge a tough run for their money.
Recharge are wisely looking to capture the consumer side of the $3 trillion-valued branded payments market in order to retain an edge. The D2C model has been yielding great results across various industries in recent years, and with consumers more actively involved in branded payments than ever before, Recharge has taken the step to launch a global marketplace that will be available to 180 countries in 2023. Interestingly, Recharge.com is promoting this in tandem with its Pay Now, Buy Later scheme, subverting the traditional notions of prepaid gift cards and keeping itself relevant to consumers in the process.
