Role
Who you are
- A Master’s degree in Law, preferably from a Dutch university
- Excellent written and verbal skills in both Dutch and English with the ability to present complex matters comfortably, clearly and to the point
- At least 3-5 years of relevant experience in a law firm, in-house or consulting environment, including drafting and negotiating contracts
- Extensive knowledge of privacy laws and experience in ensuring GDPR compliance, preferably acting as DPO
- Experience in negotiating IT contracts
- Preferably familiarity with the payment and/or financial services industries and knowledge of associated, regulatory frameworks (PSD2 and PSD3, AML, EMD), issues and challenges
- A hands-on, self-propelling approach. Someone who likes to take the initiative but is also able to timely ask for help when needed
- Consistent good judgement and ability to help create pragmatic business solutions, while managing legal risk
- The ability to get the job done under pressure and constructively adapt to change
- A digital mindset. You are excited and passionate about exploring digital innovation and technology and feel comfortable working in an informal and fast-changing tech environment
- A down-to-earth (‘no ego’), positive and personable approach. You are a proactive, inspiring team member with a flexible attitude, with great influencing and communication skills
What the job involves
- We’re on the hunt for a talented, enthusiastic and energetic Legal Counsel for our close-knit Legal & Compliance team at Recharge.com based in Amsterdam

- In this role you are also responsible for data protection regulation compliance across the Recharge group
- Besides you will be involved in commercial projects
- You will report to and are a sparring partner of the Head of Legal & Compliance, and you will be working closely together with the other in-house counsel and stakeholders in the company

- As a Legal Counsel at a scale-up, a truly international and digital company, you will be challenged to work on a broad spectrum of exciting matters on a daily basis

- You will operate independently, proactively, and cross-functionally with technical and non-technical teams across the company
- As we expand our products and services globally, you will play an important role in building our legal function, negotiating contracts, supporting M&A projects, while ensuring compliance
- Your initiatives and contributions will make an immediate impact and you will be responsible for your own projects and activities
- Your daily work will range from reviewing, negotiating, and drafting high-end contracts, ensuring compliance with financial regulation, and corporate housekeeping
- Projects where you will be working on include activities relating to our global expansion and supporting the business with new products or initiatives
- You will report into and be a sparring partner of the Head of Legal & Compliance, and you will be working closely together with the Senior Legal Counsel and other stakeholders in the company

With the online gaming boom, branded payments (such as gift cards, mobile call credit, vouchers, and prepaid payment cards) have found a renewed customer source. They are an increasingly popular gift, and Coda is a global leader in out-of-app monetisation and commerce solutions.
Coda focuses predominantly on partnerships with leading digital, gaming and mobile content publishers such as Electronic Arts, Riot Games and Activision. Distributing more than 500 game titles, it also oversees webstores for the likes of Call of Duty. The company offers more choice and value for consumers, and simplified global growth for publishers through risk, compliance and customer support management.
In 2025, Coda began its expansion into new markets and consumer segments through its acquisition of UK prepaid payments platform Recharge. This came on the back of impressive 2024 revenues and bolsters Coda's expansion into the European market.
